Paraphrase:
While not playing a down of football I want to thank tOSU for the free and excellent medical care and physical therapy I received from the very best in the country. I also want to thank tOSU for the free education I received from such a great University. Finally, I want to thank Coach Day for believing in me even though my knee was blown out and knowing that my rehab and development as a player would take significant time. Now that my knee is better and I realize I really am afraid of competition I am leaving but want to wish everyone the best.

Dude, cut the kid some slack

That's a horseshit post.

This kid had to wait until his SR year of HS to start. He came here knowing he was a plan B and had a stacked (at the time) depth chart in front of him. Didn't (apparently) blink an eye when Fields transferred in.

I don't have any inside info but this doesn't feel anything like Martel to me. Feels more like Grimes and legit personal reasons.

Who knows? It doesn't really matter what any of us think anyway, he is gone.

Shocked I tell you...hoping the pendulum swings back around. This is a bit unsettling but it’s consistent with the times. I’ll reserve judgment on Matthew for now (could be circumstances we don’t understand). The recent success of true freshman QBs starting is likely contributing to this trend. Miller coming next year perhaps spooked him??? 4-5 QBs transferring or entering draft in 12 months. Sheesh

I don't really care a kid's reasons for transferring but I get the feeling this blindsided Day a little bit. If your feeling homesick transfer after the season so we can go get a 2019 recruit or be looking for grad transfers right away.

Unless something drastic happened in the spring family wise, he really kind of threw the team under the bus. He has ever right to do so but it could have been handled better.

Re: What makes Baldwin's decision interesting is that he has never backed down from competition previously in his career. The quarterback had to sit on the bench until his senior year at Lake Travis with Baylor's Charlie Brewer a year ahead of him and it appeared he brought a similar attitude to Ohio State.

"I knew coming in I was going to have to compete and that’s what’s going to happen," Baldwin said on National Signing Day of 2018. "But that’s what it’s about here. It’s not a bad thing, it’s welcomed. If you don’t want to compete, you shouldn’t come to Ohio State because they bring in a load of studs every year."

either the reports are true that baldwin just wants to move closer to home or he's tathan 2.0 without the bravado.
The bravado is 95% of the reason people got on Tate in the first place. This is more of a Joe Burrow situation in my eyes. Baldwin stayed, competed, probably saw the writing on the wall, and believed he was good enough to start. No complaints from me. Absolutely sucks for depth but Baldwin handled this as well as you could. Wish him nothing but the best.

If we're just bullshitting unsubstantiated theories: he saw how Day threw Tate to the curb and handed the job to an outsider for at least 2 years. Nothing would stop Day from doing the same thing in two or three years. A lot of it probably goes back to how honest Day was with Baldwin in spring camp, for better or worse.

I'm just getting ready for the part of the season when Fields is pulled or injured and the fans rally around QB ChugEnough. Might need to build up my drinking tolerance now.
