QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

I'm sure he was the dude hitting up the AD on Saturday morning about the stats on Friday nights too....

Listening to Zach’s Smith podcast today. He’s reporting that he got a call from Corey Denis saying that Derek McCord was upset with his criticism of Kyle and wants him to stop.

Take it FWIW.
that tracks

I think he was solid all year but not elite. Yes, he had good numbers but he left a lot of points on the board in every game and never put together a complete game outside of Mich st. I don’t think the game ever slowed down for him and unfortunately I think he may of peaked at ND. Statistics can often be misleading as I can bet no one watched a game this year and came away impressed by any of his performances (outside of the aforementioned mich st who was horrible this year). I really don’t want to pile on the kid, but there’s a reason why Day wouldn’t commit to him being the starter in ‘24 and on Sunday, before the transfer, we were all fine with that for the most part.
The “left points on the field” issue as two sides to it. The Bucks red zone offense has been questionable throughout the Meyers and Day era. That seems to suggest that it is more than a QB issue.

Take it FWIW but I don’t think he would be throwing around names if not true.

Yikes. Let him live his own life dad, or you’ll continue to get in his way.

(Obviously disregard if this isn’t true)

One rumor that Smith brought up was that when Ewers was here, his dad wanted Kyle to play in front of Ewers, and Day told the dad to back off because it made no sense since it would cost his son a year of eligibility. The father didn't care and cost his son a year of eligibility.

I think my take on all of this, is everything can be true to some extent. Kyle's dad could have been a pushy helicopter parent. Kyle has struggled at times, and there are probably issues with his competitiveness. The fans and media were brutal too him to a unhealthy extent. His dad didn't get the assurances he wanted, and Kyle didn't want to compete against a transfer QB or even do another head to head with Brown.

If all of this is sorta true, or some of it was true and other stuff false, it seemed like a toxic situation, and it's probably best for Kyle and OSU that both parted ways. Kyle once free from the glaring tinder box that being QB 1 at OSU may go on to light it up. Day may be free to explore other options while not having the constant pressure of potentially losing your starter, and just focus on moving the team in the best direction it can.

What Zach said was that McCord's dad was petrified Day and Buckeye Nation would see what they had in Ewers thus McCord would not see the field again.. so he forced Day to play McCord even tho it burned another year... Ewer and fam responded knowing Day succumbed to that pressure... and felt he wouldn't get a fair shot at starting this year.

The father was doing another strong arm and Ryan had had enuf

Sere, you gotta look at from whose mouth it comes. Zach's not one I'd put creedence in. PS, correct me if I'm out there, but isn't Corey the current tOSU QB coach? Why would this guy commit political suicide by being an inside source? FWIW, quoting a person doesn't necessarily mean that that person DID speak those words? Isn't the mantra of reporting "I refuse to name my source", and the codicil is that "if I did that, they'd never give me any info at all".

Sitting here on what will probably be my last day of my 19 years of teaching college kids and 28 years of teaching K- 12 kids. I've loved almost all of it except the "professional development" and "administrative" days.

Two jobs I loved outside of the classroom were being a platoon leader, and being a track and cross country coach. Both were jobs in which you were measured by the success of kids. I think about that aspect and then think about the level where Ryan Day works and mumble, "There but for the grace of God go I."

If you are to give Smith any credibility, the story is basically Everytime something negative was said about McCord Zach would hear through the grapevine that Derek was upset. Zach's story with Dad wanting assurances lines up with the other beat writers takes. Zach does not like Austin Ward lol. After seeing the posts here I had to go check out the episode... I don't know what's true or not.
