QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

The talent difference between CJ (even when he struggled early) vs Kyle is night and day.

CJ was always so effortless and smooth. Kyle might make it as an NFL backup QB, but the talent isn’t in same stratosphere as CJ, Fields, or Haskins.

And those are all 1st Rd QB’s….so I’m not trying to be a dick or anything. Just, the tape doesn’t lie. Neither do the mechanics. It’s just a little clunky/awkward with Kyle. He reminds me of a poor man’s Mac Jones and I don’t mean that negatively. Just similar game types…

That said…..we can still win a Natty if things break our way. Our defense is that good.

“I thought his feet moved better in the game,” Ryan Day said in his postgame press conference. “Just watching the rhythm of the game, the feet – he started off a little better in the Rutgers game, then he started off a little better in this game – the game is slowing down for him. You’re beginning to see that happening. Not that it’s all perfect all the time, it’s not. But when his feet are right and he’s found the rhythm of the game, that’s when he’s playing at his best and he threw some really nice balls tonight.”

For the night, McCord finished 24-of-31 passing (77%) for 335 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

"I felt like my footwork was definitely better today, and that’s something that we focused on during the week – a good base, having my weight distribution right," McCord said. "Then I think the O-line did a great job today as well in pass protection. ... I was able to step into the throws the way I wanted to."

No doubt but like Day commented, the game is starting to slow down for him too.

Yep.

IMO, he was back foot throwing a lot earlier in the year because he was anxious and feeling pressure that wasn't even really there. That's what goes away when the proverbial "game slows down for him" phase of a career begins.

I've seen it so much in baseball pitchers it's not even funny. You can just tell things are so fast in their head that the body isn't doing what they know it should be. They have no idea until you show them film and it doesn't fix itself until they can mentally slow down/calm down.

This is a very good sign for us.

Gotta ask the question, if it was merely a case of throwing of the proper foot, why wasn't this problem corrected long ago. I get that habits need to be broken and then fixed, but come on. As QB1, Kyle gets most of the attention. And believe he would have been beaten up by the coaches if he persisted in throwing off his back foot....OK, so maybe twisted ankle helped him get it right, and certainly his placement was miles above what he demonstrated in the prior nine games. On Marv's catch and run, there was only a small/tad of slow down required to haul the pass in, and several of his 'touch passes' had some tremendous accuracy. His performance was in the very great area, and hopefully will silence the 'fans' that are calling for his head. Would that we see this against TTUN, which tOSU will sorely need. Go Bucks!
