QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

The first time that Stroud refuses an easy run to get a critical first down, I would bring in McCord and put Stroud on the bench--no matter what it would do to the final outcome of the game.

You play for a team.

Would love to go back and watch his start vs Akron last year

Its not the best showing. He looked like a deer in headlights out there. And who could blame him? He's playing in front 100k+ for the first time ever.
I don't think we'll know what he can do until spring practice starts and we get reports back. I like his arm, and the fact that he'll move the pocket. He's not a statue like many assume, but he's also not going to be confused for Justin Fields. But he can move the ball with his legs if need be. 247sports comped him to Matthew Stafford- I would agree to a point(Stafford has a very high level arm strength). As long as he(or Brown) can get the ball to all of the offensive weapons and not try and do too much themselves, then OSU should see success. That's essentially mainly what Stetson Bennett does, he doesn't have the talent of any of the 3 OSU QBs, but he knows the playbook, gets the ball out and doesn't do too much.

This will likely continue for awhile, but could easily have and should've been dealt with this season by getting him real PT. There was just no reason to play Stroud every minute. Both McCord and Brown should've gotten substantial time as a foundation for the upcoming season. It's not like there was any question that Stroud was leaving.

Kyle shouldn't have been like the headlighted deer, as he goes against a pretty good defense. Granted, he wears a black jersey, so the attack was blunted a bit. Think he'll be fine, but agree that he should have been given more than a couple minutes of live game experience. Kinda think that Day put the clamps on CJ's running. He USED to be a fairly good runner, but believe Day told him to nix the running, as easier for him to get hurt, and there's nobody seasoned enough behind him. Could be wrong, but doubt it. CJ is competitive enough to want to take off, but hey, standing tall in the pocket helped him make some great plays this year. Trust me, if CJ had been hurt on a run, Day would have caught unholy grief from Buckeye Nation. Given that, the question still lingers, why Kyle or Devin not been given more meaningful minutes, especially when you look at some of the winning margins during 2022.

13-18
319 yds
2 td
1 int

True freshman quarterback Kyle McCord overcame early jitters to throw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, and true freshman TreVeyon Henderson ran for 93 yards and two scores in the first half before being done for the day.

McCord got the nod in place of C.J. Stroud, a freshman who started the first three games but has a sore shoulder and got a breather against the seven-touchdown underdog. McCord was 13 for 18 and got credit for the first touchdown pass of his career when Chris Olave turned a jet sweep toss into a 5-yard score in the first quarter.

I truly think Day thought this was the buckeyes year to win it all. They didn't rotate much at all this year. QBs didn't get much work, WR depth wasnt utilized, only used back ups in the secondary when they had to due to injuries. I think that is going to bite us in our ass 2023. I know some key players have decisions to make Steele Chambers is one, along with Eichenburg. The LB experience is non existent after them... Not sure who the tackles are going to be as I don't think we had any options behind Friar. We need to get a few hole fillers out of the portal in my opinion.
