A real demonstration of a hard hitting interview, there Hooley.

:shake:

Basically, he says he was tired because he's so busy that night (when votes were due). He doesn't look at records. OU was an "eye test" thing. He "knew" Ohio State lost to Wisconsin, so Wiscy had to be above Ohio State. But, then in the next breath, he doesn't play the "well this team beat that team, who beat that team, who lost to this team" game. Then he went on to play the victim card.. his kids are brainwashed Buckeye fans. his wife is a former cheerleader. He was a Captain. His dad was a captain. He'd love to put OSU at 2 .... or as high as he can.

Umm.... Herbie... you could have put OSU at 1 if you wanted to.

Pretty much nailed it, and it really is terrible that Hooley offered no rebuttal and neglected to point out the conflicts within Herbie's own poll with the reasoning he said he used. On one hand he says how can you rank Wisky below tOSU since they one the head to head, and on his ballot his has LSU far ahead of Arkansas, who beat LSU. And the Oklahoma eye test remark was the lamest part. Beating UConn by about the same margin that TSUN did impressed youthat much? Or was it the 2 pt win over 4-8 cincy? The 3 pt. win over Air Force? That huge win over a 5-7 Texas squad? Joke.

I always compare "Fire Starter" to Jay Bilas in a sense. Bilas seems to have informed views, doesn't rely on cliches, and doesn't seem to outwardly try to disassociate himself with his alma mater in Duke.

Bilas is everything that Herbie wishes he could be--besides providing excellent commentary, he deftly avoids being a Duke homer as well as he avoids going over the top in an attempt not to look like a homer. I swear if you didn't know it or he otherwise mentions it, you'd never be able to figure out from his commentary that he even went to Duke.

I take it his and his agent's plan to get back into the favor of Buckeye fans (at least in Central Ohio) by hosting a weekly radio show during the football season didn't work?

Nevermind he refused to ever take calls from the "commoners" and talked more about the SEC and Oregon than Ohio State (on a radio show in Columbus).

Somewhat telling that not one OSU football coach (no assts too) ever went on his Columbus radio show (yet national coaches did).

"Imagine if you're a Wisconsin fan, and all these people put Ohio State over Wisconsin. Hey didn't we beat Ohio State?"

"Imagine you're an Ohio State fan, and you beat Arkansas, the second place team in the SEC West who beat LSU in the regular season. Hey, why's LSU ranked higher than us?"

Haha I'd love to send these quotes to Herbie, but then I would be one of those "irrational" fans that he isn't quite sure don't make up our entire fanbase. Really Herbie, lobbing insults at a fanbase that is peeved at you isn't a great way to get back in their good graces. Not that he cares anyway.

I'm almost ready to believe that the only reason he dresses his kids up in Ohio State jerseys when gameday is in Columbus is as a preemptive move to keep the crowd from booing him.

I said "almost" because I don't believe he's smart enough to be that cynical.

I just listened to the entire interview. I had a nice write up but I erased the entire thing because of how hard it is to describe how terrible it is. Seriously, listen to it. I think it starts at 42:30.

I don't like Kirk Herbstreit.

Yeah, I am finishing up listening to the crap that is coming out of his mouth.

Here is a couple of the "highlights":

He doesn't look at records when filing out his ballots, yet contracdicts himself later.

Wiscy beat OSU head to head during the regular season, and even though they lost their bowl, Wiscy deserves to be ranked ahead of them. Apparantly bowl wins don't mean jack for the final rankings.

Oklahoma "looks" better than OSU and has more "potential" than OSU. How in the hell does the 2010 OK team has more potential than the 2010 OSU team? The bowl games were the final game for the 2010 season. Great logic there.

He went on to whine about how those of us who tore apart his rankings are "irrational fans" and he hopes to be with more "rational fans" on a cruise he is going on soon.

Whatever. I lost a lot of respect for him when he made the comments about how offensice recruits should look elsewhere than Ohio State.

His opinion means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
