QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

No one cares about the ACC or Big East, neither has ever been a premier conference. The PAC12 has about as many fans as a pee wee team, and the Big 12 is much better than the B1G right now.

SO the justification for the comments directly only against the BigTen isbthat because people care about the BigTen ?

Really?

When you average all of the various computer rankings--and computers do not have the financial incentive to shade the truth that Herbstreit has--then, you will find that:

6 of 12 SEC teams are in the top 30

6 of 12 B1G teams are in the top 30

http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm
Along with 6 Big IIXII teams and 4 Pac-28 teams. Oh, and 3 ACC teams.

And the Big LEast standard-bearer, WVU, juuuuuust squeezes in there at #30.

Everyone talks about how awful the B1G is this season and how great the B12/SEC is...

Sure, LSU/Bama are better than probably any team in the other conferences, but then what? South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn? Come on. Those teams aren't special.

B1G has Nebraska, Sparty, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State etc that are all at the same level, if not better than, the above mentioned SEC schools.

The B12 has ChOklahoma, Okie State, Texas, Texas Tech. ChOklahoma has had some bad games and don't seem dominant, Okie State is good but who knows with them, and Texas/Texas Tech are middle of the road.

My whole point is that the conferences mentioned aren't that much different from one another. What the B1G is missing is a nationally elite/dominant team. But that doesn't mean the entire conference as a whole is bad.

Yeah, really.
The big 12 and SEC are obviously superior.
The Big East and ACC suck, but no one expects them to be good, and the PAC12 has no fans so who gives a damn.
Add all that up and you have the reason for a national broadcast team to ignore their suck.
talk about the B1Gs suck (which it does) and people watch. its basic economics bro.

no one got angry or excited for Michigan Iowa before the Disney sponsored SEC era of dominance. maybe decades ago but not for a long time, and that was long before the big ten slipped as a conference

Disney sponsored?

If the Big 10 won 5 in a row and was staring at number 6 then it'd be our era of dominance and we'd be all over it. Disney would be too.

The Big 10 is terrible and has not been great since 2002.

The big ten was quite good until January 2007. Then the hyperbole from Bristol erased everything that came before that date.

The Big10 was good until then, but it isn't hyperbole that changed that. Its the fact that theSEC has been better and the Big10 has fallen off considerably.

so you're telling me that Alabama fans used to get worked up when Michigan-Iowa was on TV in the early 2000s? I'm guessing they didn't even know it was on TV most years.

I second 27's notion that being true doesn't make it relevant. Hoke's voice blindsides you the first time you hear it, but it doesn't mean it belongs in the conversation Herbie is having.

That is if he's actually breaking down CFB objectively, rather than the alternative.

I agree with this. Whoever brought up that Herbie's statement was true is entirely missing the point.

100% disagree. Many people are tired of the constant bitching about anything Herbie says.

Bottom line - none of this exists if the SEC didn't win 5 in a row including an absolute curb stomping by UF over OSU. It also doesn't help that the Big 10 (OSU) has lost a couple. In addition, they are staring at number 6 b/c I don't see anyone right now that can hang with Bama/LSU.

The results on the field have driven this. If the Big 10 had won 5 in a row then Herbie et al would be on their knees in front of our conference. Hyperbole knows no bounds and you can easily insert any conference name when they win 5 in a row and when the other big time conference is on hard times. (Note: sorry Big 12, Big East, Pac 12, ACC... the SEC and Big 10 are the only great conferences in terms of fans, money, TV, etc) But until the Big 10 can resurrect itself from the deplorable condition in which it currently resides, then you'll hear more pro-SEC. How can we, OSU, Big 10 deal with it?.... WIN.

I respect others and how they arrive at their opinion... this is just how I see it.
