QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Kiper compared him to Tom Brady after the psu game
Yep, it was after that game that he started getting noticed. He was fantastic in that game.

I just looked up his stats, he threw at least 2 touchdown passes in his first 10 starts that year. Both Haskins and Barrett reached 9 straight. Troy never did it in more than 4 straight. Germaine 5, Hoying 7. That's impressive.

Any way, off topic. Fields should be fun to watch in a Day offense.

And couldn't that also be the case with Fromm as well?

That's kind of my point though. Just because a player doesn't start doesn't mean he's not as talented or more talented than the player ahead of him.
Fromm was the UGA starter out of talent. You don't beat an incumbent starter at QB(Eason) as a true frosh if you're not talented.
Fields most likely didn't start because he didn't know the entire playbook. And that much is evident when they played him, you could obviously see a clear simplification of the playbook. And I would say 9 times out 10 the better players start. The success of the players affects a coaches job, they wouldn't play an inferior player just for loyalty. I think that Haskins as far as upside, was better than Barrett, but Barrett was a better leader, motivator and could will the offense in ways that Haskins couldn't. Haskins has admitted as such on multiple occasions, and MANY fans clamored that Haskins wasn't ready after his abysmal showing in the Illinois game(funny how memories get cloudy).
Fields could just not have been ready last year, he was a true frosh for Christ sakes. There are very few Matt Barkleys, Trevor Lawrences and Tua's out there that can be the man right out the gate from HS. Just relying on natural ability doesn't always translate into CFB(it can if you have otherworldly talents like Manziel, Bush, Clarret, Vince Young, etc) as learning and mastering the playbook is imperative for QBs, and that's where Tate has a big leg up. Fields better be in a crash course

Boooooooommmmmmm! Absolutely huge. Assuming he gets the waiver, this QB battle is going to be epic. Just have to hope it doesn't end up being a negative distraction. But this is definitely "one of them good problems" for now. Really excited to see this commitment go down. Funny how I mused that maybe we were trading Mathis for Fields and that I would take it...well, here we are and I'll take it. I'm going to go ahead and add Fields to the 2018 class and call it #1 now.

Watching his highlights and he reminds me so much of Braxton mobility wise. It seems he was pretty accurate for a freshman too (70% on 40 throws).

So Braxton with the arm of Haskins right?
I don't think he is near as quick, fast, or explosive as Braxton. I think Tate is actually quicker and shiftier than Fields. Fields may have a slight advantage throwing, he is bigger, may be harder to take down in the pocket, but my guess is Tate is the better runner.

Had to follow that up with more about 2007.

That was the year OSU was 10-0 and rated #1 before hosting Illinois.

We were down 7 and punted to Illinois with over 8 minutes left. Juice Williams ran out the clock on a 16 play 42 yard drive. EIGHT MINUTES.

I was there and it was the most painful single drive I ever had to endure.

That night the wife took the kids over to some friends house while I watched the game alone. We had DosXX on one handle and Guinness on beer gas on the other handle.

Suffice it to say, they called some time late in the game and told me that my friend would be over to pick me up... they didn’t want me driving because they knew that there was no way I was close to legal.

They were right. That game sucked.
