QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Had to follow that up with more about 2007.

That was the year OSU was 10-0 and rated #1 before hosting Illinois.

We were down 7 and punted to Illinois with over 8 minutes left. Juice Williams ran out the clock on a 16 play 42 yard drive. EIGHT MINUTES.

I was there and it was the most painful single drive I ever had to endure.
I was in the stands next to bkb that day. I know everybody is bkb but I was next to the actual bkb.

Longest 8 minutes of my life, and watching the end of that game also sucked.

The guy Fields reminds me of is Cam Newton. Similar build. Similar style. Even their throwing motions look similar.
Fields isn't near the physical freak that Newton is. Not even close. Newton is literally a DE playing QB at 6'5 250lbs he was 6'5 235lbs in HS). Cardale Jones is closer to the size of Newton and he's the biggest QB that OSU has ever had. Justin Fields is closest in size to JT Barrett, not saying their talent level is the same, but build wise, that's the best comparison

Can Justin Fields Play For Ohio State In 2019?

Ohio-State-football-quarterback-Justin-Fields.jpg

Ryan Day just added one of the most explosive quarterback recruits in recent memory to his roster. Now the big question is whether Justin Fields will be able to play for the Buckeyes in 2019.

Fields is transferring to Ohio State after spending his freshman season of 2018 at Georgia.

He is not a grad transfer, so he will not automatically be eligible to play this fall. However, there is a path that could get him there.

Fields will have to apply the NCAA for a hardship waiver, similar to the one granted to Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson when he transferred from Ole Miss.

In Patterson’s case, he said the Rebels’ coaching staff lied to him about the severity of NCAA sanctions that were looming over the program. His appeal was granted and he received immediate eligibility.

For Fields, the case would likely center on an ugly incident during a football game in Athens last fall. A Georgia baseball player directed a racial slur at Fields from the stands. The player later apologized and was kicked off the baseball team.

Fields could argue that a racial slur directed at him by another student-athlete made him feel unsafe at UGA, necessitating an immediate transfer.

That is not necessarily the kind of case the NCAA would want to push back on. The optics of an African-American athlete being called a racial slur, and then having his professed concerns about it downplayed by the sport’s governing body would not be great.

The timetable for that decision may be a few months away, however. Last year, Patterson wasn’t granted eligibility until April 27.

Fields has not yet even officially applied for that waiver.

Assuming he is eligible, the next question is whether he can beat out the quarterbacks who are already on the roster.

Dwayne Haskins has not officially declared for the NFL Draft yet. But given that Haskins said before the Rose Bowl that he and Fields had been in contact about Haskins’ decision, it’s certainly suggestive of what that choice might be.

“He hit me up earlier. He’s just waiting to see what I do,” Haskins said on December 29. “I try to be positive and help as many people as I can. You know, Justin is going through something right now.”

Assuming Haskins is gone, there would be four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster: Redshirt sophomore Tate Martell, redshirt freshman Matthew Baldwin, grad transfer senior Chris Chugunov, and Fields.

There are still a few hurdles to clear, but the Buckeyes could be on the verge of one of the most interesting and exciting quarterback battles in school history.

Football: Justin Fields becomes Day’s first quarterback

IMG_7811-13izsj5-530x353.jpg

Ryan Day has not had his quarterback yet.

In his two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at Ohio State, being promoted into the offensive coordinator role in 2018 after sharing the position with Kevin Wilson in 2017 and now the 25th head coach in school history, quarterbacks have been provided for Day in J.T. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins.

Day has still been integral to each quarterback’s success over the past two seasons: with Barrett recording a career high in passing yards, touchdowns and completion percentage in 2017 and Haskins becoming Ohio State’s first Heisman finalist since 2006.

But neither Haskins nor Barrett are quarterbacks that came to Ohio State for Day. The Buckeyes did not plan to have that until four-star 2020 commit Jack Miller enrolls after 2019 four-star quarterback recruit Dwan Mathis rescinded his commitment from the Buckeyes on the early signing day, signing his letter of intent with Georgia.

However, on Friday, Day got his first guy.

Justin Fields, the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 2 recruit in the 2018 class, announced on Twitter he would transfer to Ohio State after his freshman season a Georgia, joining Day and the Buckeye offense for the 2019 season.

With in-game experience with the Bulldogs, completing 69.2 percent of his passes for 328 yards, recording 266 yards on the ground while averaging 6.3 yards per carry and recording eight total touchdowns in 2018, Fields becomes the most experienced quarterback on Ohio State’s roster heading into a 2019 season without Haskins.

Prior to Fields’ arrival, the assumed heir to Haskins’ starting job was now-redshirt sophomore Tate Martell, the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class, recruited and committed to Ohio State prior to Day’s arrival.

I also stood right next to you as Terrelle Pryor failed to see Duron Carter left all by himself for what would have been a game winning 80 yard TD strike against USC in 2009.

Don't EVER invite me to a game again.

Cardale IS his size. Fields definitely has some similarities to Cam in his style, despite being a little smaller

So are Fields and Haskins buddies? The article I read made it seem like DW and JF were at the game sitting with UM and his son, like they were all there together. If so the optics seemed a little strange without Tate there also even though with Tate's immature handling of this it seems like neither would enjoy watching a game together at this point.

I doubt the Tate comments are nothing personal, just a kid confident in his abilities, and also someone who hears all of the fan sudden adoration for a transfer of the prestige of Fields.
