QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

After the Rutgers game last year, when I got to see Burrow play some, I came on this site and said we would be more efficient on O if JT went to the bench. I caught hell. Well, either Burrow or Haskins would be better. Period. JT is not getting it done.
None of us have a clue if Haskins or Burrow will be the answer, but one thing is for sure-JT isn't. Has been the weak link on the team for 2+ years.

I won't place all the blame on JT. There needs to be better play calling. We came out and started the 2nd quarter and ran the ball right down their throats with JK. Weber had that drive where he was reeling off big runs before suffering an injury. On that drive they abandoned the run as well IIRC. Weber was obviously fine because he came back in and played when the game was essentially over. It's clear this team is a tempo power running team.

We have studs all over the WR room, we should be able to get them the ball. Bama is a power running team who can hit big plays in the passing with sub par QB play and we can't even do that with a guy who's won multiple awards and broke tons if records. Like I've seen written before, JT doesn't throw guys open like I watched Mayfield do all night. He waits for a WR to run, stand and get open, wait some more, and then throws it. And usually a DB or LB can close in and make a play. Happens constantly

JT needs to see the bench. Whatever the cause is for his regression or inability to move the team down the field, it needs to be addressed in the form of one of the backups coming off the bench and getting a real shot. The receivers aren't helping much with dropped passes and inability to get separation. But even when they do the ball is in the dirt, over their head, late, or picked off.

So far JT has only been good against bad defenses, and the public loves him after those games. But when we face quality defenses the result is always the same: the passing game struggles and we try rely on the running game (yet somehow totally abandon it way too soon and continue trying to throw) and the defense to save our butts. And for the second big game in a row we've been embarrassed because of the lack of a real passing game. That won't, and shouldn't, cut it at OSU. When we've had great teams that can go out and play with the big boys it was because we had an offense that could hurt you on the ground and through the air. Well right now every team has learned that all they have to do is shut down our run game because we're no real threat through the air.

As far as this game goes the blame isn't all on the offense because the defense looked confused all night. But if we're gonna talk about what has plagued this team for two years now and repeatedly let them down, it begins with who is under center. I love JT for what he has done in the past, but he's held this offense back for quite some time now with his indecision and overall ineffectiveness as a passer. It's apparent in the wins, and glaring in the losses. Urban has earned the reputation of not being overly loyal to upperclassmen. Let's see if he'll continue to do so at the cost of any more games.

I can complain about JT's play in every thread, and yet I can 100% understand why Urban will continue to ride him. Benching JT after a loss to a top 5 team in the second game of the season is like going for it down 7 on 4th and 10 from your own 15 yard line in the first quarter. There's too much risk and uncertainty. Meyer would basically be throwing in the towel on the season and breaking in a new QB or two. You'd better be certain your backups are better than the guy they are replacing. He's been here before, and it turned out just fine. I'm not optimistic that it will be fine, and I think we'll continue to get destroyed against top teams because of the self imposed offensive restrictions, but I can see why Meyer isn't going another direction.

Alot of it come down to JT being hesitant to throw the ball. Maybe if they don't give him as many options in his progression it will help this. One or two reads then run the ball or dump it down. Make the route require a quick pass. I feel like he is making 3 or 4 reads and everything breaks down. We have playmakers that a dump down can end up being a big play. The offensive philosophy and focal point needs to be to get the ball into playmakers hands and let them go. JT just doesn't have the playmaking ability with his arm and adjusting his timing to the focal point of the offense. It doesn't mean he can't be a game manager and a playmaker with his feet.

I've come to the conclusion that J.T. Barrett is Maverick from the movie "Top Gun" after Goose dies. Something is hindering him from re-engaging.

He's holding onto the ball too long, not looking aggressive while running and has never looked like the 2014 version since the 2014 season.

Viper kept sending Maverick up in the sky in "Top Gun"...don't think Urban Meyer needs to do that.

If you're going to do this, why do it with your 5th year QB and not one of the young guys? He's not trusting his reads, and he's missing receivers on the plays where they limit options.
Bingo. The offense shouldn't have to be simplified for a 5th year player! If the offense will be simplified, we might as well put in Haskins or Burrow

Consider my towel thrown in. This team cannot win the B1G with Barrett at QB, let alone a natty.
