I'm not going to dump on IT, whom I regard as one of the most incredible leaders at the QB position since Troy Smith.

With that said, he's limited as to skill set. And I'd be surprised to see us in the CFP this season.

Let me say this, though. Buckeyes will win the playoffs with Tate Martell at QB. AT least once, maybe more. Kid throws a sweet ball.

One guys opinion:

Cardale was the perfect example of the extreme passing end of the "what Urbans offense needs from a QB" spectrum. Couldn't run or execute read option for shit.

Brax was the best pure runner who could also hurt you deep. Couldn't execute the read option very well.

JT is the best at orchestrating the run and distributing the ball to playmakers but once defenses figured out they didn't have to respect the pass they have really made him look bad

I think the perfect QB for this system just won a NC last year with Clemson. Question is who in the QB room right now can come close to that blend of great read option guy and legit passer?

Probably Burrow. Haven't seen Haskins in game, but I'd be ok working him in and limiting his running to 5-7 attempts per game.

Really hoping Meyer rotates a new QB in with the starters after the first Q. I think it's important to get them some snaps right now.

I think it will be telling if (once?) Ohio State grabs a big lead against Army, UNLV, or Rutgers. Does Meyer rest Barrett early and "risk" Haskins or Burrows igniting the passing game? Or does he let Barrett try to work on some new concepts? If the younger guys excel, how do you keep them out of the games?

I don't see Barrett as being close to the runner he used to be, or the runner he needs to be, in the read option. So now you've a quarterback that is obviously gun shy in the in the long and intermediate throwing game, isn't running as hard or decisively as he used to, and arguably incapable of throwing quick screens and executing RPOs with the speed and accuracy he needs.

Trying to be a glass half full kind of guy, but I don't see a fix for Barrett.

Unfortunately this is what is going to happen. I will not be booing as I never boo a player, they work too hard and put in too much time to get booed I don't care how badly they perform. Coaches, yeah they put it time and effort, but they get paid t get booed.

Many many many fans boo'd the QB run at the goal line. So yeah, the boo birds are going to be ready as soon as JT stuggles next.

I boo'd the QB run at the goal line but it wasn't for JT, it was the play calling. You pound it down their throats to get to the goal line then run your QB twice....very frustrating.

I am telling you teams have figured out they need to make JT beat them with his feet and arm. They are taking away the RB on the option forcing JT to take more carries, this is why we went away from the run Saturday, JT was forced to keep too many times. So then we are forced to pass the ball and they drop 8. Enough option, get some dedicated running plays going north south east and west. The only way JT is going to make up for his accuracy and arm strength issues is if teams have to play up on the run.

This pretty much nails it. Teams know exactly what to do in order to beat a JT-led offense. If the Indianas of the world can almost do it, then we all know what is going to happen when OSU faces the Oklahomas, Penn States, etc. of the world. Unless some things are drastically changed, this season has 9-3 or 8-4 written all over it.

Billy Price knows J.T. Barrett as well as anyone on the Ohio State football team.

Both were members of Ohio State’s recruiting class of 2013 and have been starters for Ohio State’s offense since 2014. They’re the only fourth-year starters on the team. Their on-field relationship has gotten even closer this year, with Price playing center and snapping the ball to Barrett at quarterback, but their off-field relationship has been close throughout their careers.

Many fans believe it’s time for Ohio State to take Barrett out of the starting lineup and make a change at the quarterback position. If you ask Price whether the Buckeyes should bench Barrett, however, his answer is a firm "No."

"You’re talking about taking out the most prolific leader in Ohio State history. One of the best guys, one of the top 1A, 1B type names in Ohio State history," Price said. "Whether I think there should be a quarterback change? No. The kid’s put more records in the Ohio State record book than any other quarterback in the entire Ohio State program."
