QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

tGrind continues.

My son made the same mistake at age 18. As a parent I did everything in my power to keep the DUI off of his record and we were succesful. JT and his parents don't have that luxury. He's hot go profile and its out there for everyone to see. I believe he has the character to learn from and grow from this incident. All I can do as a fan is to support him and his coach fully. I trust that both of them will do the right and appropriate things.

The timing literally could not be worse
Oh, I think it could be a whole lot worse. Imagine we were playing teams with an actual pulse for the next two weeks.

About driving impaired: everyone has already covered that. Not a very smart move, but IMO hardly the worst thing I've heard a college athlete doing. Hope JT learns his lesson and doesn't repeat it -- including after he turns 21.

I'd like to concur
but when you make front page of CNN, ESPN and SI... plus all the natl broadcast today...
you're bringing a lot of unwanted attention to OSU
puts the pgm and Urban into an unwinnable predicament

And all us 'holier-than-thou' folks are saying
"damn... was I lucky... by never getting caught doing all the shit I did in college"

I agree with you. He showed some bad judgement and brought on a shitstorm of negative publicity. That I disagree strongly with the two violations he was charged with (.08 DUI threshold and 21yo drinking age) doesn't negate that. He needs to be punished. It's just that I don't think he endangered anyone driving at that level, and we see college football players doing far, far worse almost every week. I just don't think his character should be pilloried (in the press not by anyone here) as if he beat the shit out of a student or sexually assaulted someone.

Have seen a ton of media today... TV and in print... and must say, very few are pillorizing JT's character... beyond ranting about indefensible evils of DWI
contraire.. it's MEYER's character and OSU's reputation that are being pillorized...

First I blame Tim May. Not sure why exactly but I drink as soon as I hear his voice.

Second, I think JT is a thoughtful intelligent guy. If anyone can learn from a mistake and also help prevent others from making the same mistake he has, I believe JT is the guy.

Third, damn this sucks. Really wanted to see this offense run at maximum efficiency over the next few games.

100% agree. The people that are getting into drunk driving accidents are typically close to .2 ... the way we go about this is incorrect. The limit should be set higher, but the penalty for being above that higher limit should be harsher. We shouldn't punish people for driving perfectly fine after a few beers.

OVI penalties should be progressive like speeding violations. I've always thought it unfair to treat someone who blows a .08 the same as someone who blows a .16, but that's the world we live in. I don't agree with the law, but JT broke it and got caught. He also broke team rules by drinking in the first place. Give him the chance to pay his debt to the team by suspending him for however many games the rules dictate, and I'm sure he'll work twice as hard when his suspension is over.

Actually, that is the law. It's a 2-tier system and .17 is aggravated (12 month vs 6 month suspension for 1st OVI and greater possible jail sentence).
