QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I think people need to chill out here a bit and stop with the holier-than-thou approach to how they see this. JT fucked up, there are plenty of 20 year old kids that do the same thing. Unfortunately, its part of the growing process. He carries a heavy responsibility being captain and the leader, so he let his team down.

Let's not bury this kid based on a transgression, he's going to get punished and he will take heat for it. So....He's not perfect, maybe not mature enough to be a captain. I think the most telling part of this story is yet to be written; that being, let's see how he handles this situation and himself going forward. If he screws up again, then you have a problem.

I have a feeling that he feels like a dumb ass right now and probably is harder on himself than any of us will be with this whole ordeal. Let's let this thing play out and roll with the punches. And for Christ's sake, please stop acting like you were rational at 20 years old. :smash:

I keep seeing this "holier-than-thou" being thrown around. What does that even mean? That no one can be disappointed that a team captain made a bad decision? That people can't think driving while impaired is a problem? I don't think anyone here is "burying" anyone. But that doesn't mean they can do whatever and "they're just 20 year old kids" is always a valid defense.

Bingo. I don't get where this "burying" accusation has any legs. I don't see anyone suggesting here that Barrett will be suspended more than 2 games, and possibly not be captain anymore.

Of course we all can be disappointed that a captain screwed up. I wasn't implying that people are writing him off. I was stating that others are suggesting that he be stripped of captaincy by Meyer. To me, that is burying his role on this team in some respect. I say suspend the kid for a game and possibly suspend his captaincy until the end of the regular season. Give him a chance to bounce back and see how he handles this. Turn a negative into a potential positive in the long term. I don't know the whole story and frankly no one else on this board probably does either. I will leave it at that.

Well if the cops released him to Jones, I wouldon't assets they would have noticed whether or not Jones is impaired.

Notice what I said - his career turned out fine. He grew up to win a BCS bowl, undefeated against TTUN, win a Davey, win a Heisman, lead a team to the NC game, graduate, and become a model spokesman for Ohio State.

But sure, ignore all the good stuff...

On the first point, you're probably right. I had thought that Jones was in the car with him, while if I understand correctly now, Jones was who he called.

On the second, I'm not ignoring all the good stuff with Troy: It just isn't relevant to my point, which, in response to your point that Troy's suspension didn't matter, is that it is likely that Troy's suspension cost the 2005 team at least one big win, and that it's possible that JT's could wreck this team's championship hopes: Probablu not, since it's a one-game suspension against an opponent that the D will probably shut down, but it's a self-inflicted wound that the team could have done without.

As for JT, my position has consistently been that I prefer him to Jones as the QB but trust the coaches. Now he's fucked up, not too horribly, but not insignificantly either, and I'll continue to trust the coaches and administration to handle it appropriately.

I haven't seen one holier than thou comment, only people that are bringing it up that don't comprehend what it means thinking wanting someone to be held accountable for their actions is out of line. He made a severe mistake (most of us have ) and fortunately nobody was hurt because of it. He will be held accountable and if he is who we think he is he will probably hold himself even more accountable. If he doesn't so be it. Based on what we know thus far about the situation he can and should move forward with the season and team after the penalty is served. I do believe he will learn and grow from this

Indeed he'll most likely have to re-earn the starting job after Minnesota.
