QB Devin "Utah" Brown (Official Thread)

The fact that Day is going to play both guys is huge. I never thought that Kyle really got much opportunity to play last year. When he did it was mostly just handing ball off.
It drove me nuts, I get not running up the score in the name of sportsmanship but you need player development for succession. We knew last season was Stroud's last year, and we needed to prepare. And often times there was an opportunity to do it without rubbing it in.
So did Dave Biddle, and McCord isn’t the starter, they are still in a qb battle. He’s taking the starting rep because someone has to. We likely won’t have a “starter” until either one of them goes ham in a game or by ND week.
This is exactly how I interpreted Day's remarks on the QB situation. I'm glad we have the first 3 game slate that we do to sort it out before ND. We may very well see a fairly equal split of snaps between the two up until ND, or at the very least I think that is what we will see tomorrow. I just don't want to see a switch every other drive like what we did with Germaine and Jackson, that is terrible for a QB's rhythm and makes it tough to gauge either one's performance...but again, I defer to Day on all things QB.

No it wasn’t?

When he left we had Terry Mclaurin (who was developed as a 3 star kid and had a huge year), Johnny Dixon, Austin Mack, KJ Hill, and Ben Victor.

He also landed Olave and Wilson for good measure before being let go.

Totally get he sometimes says things that I think is a bit sensational but I also don’t get the total rejection of the guy either. He left that WR room absolutely stacked and to Hartlines credit he took the room to even another level.

However, UFMs offense with a reliance on QBs who weren’t known for their throwing shouldn’t be held against the WRs from 2012-2018. Finally, his WRs were very good I thought and more importantly they knew how to block that’s for sure.

Anyways, I think Devin wins the job if he’s not number 33 lol
We had those guys but they were not seeing the world on fire until Hartline took over as the grad assistant and then became the WR coach. It sure wasn't Urbans albatross.

I don't think Devin gets a ton of playing time this year past week 2. Unless McCord is turning it over let and right hel'l end up all conference this year

Zach Smith had Braxton Miller, JT and Cardale throwing the ball to his WRs… there’s a reason they didn’t light it up until 2017 when Ryan Day arrived and added the crossing routes etc.

Can hate on the guy for the allegations he was involved with or his takes but he was a very good football coach and recruiter. There’s no shame to admit he built zone 6 and Hartline took zone 6 and amplified it.

If he was that great of a fucking coach then he wouldn’t be podcasting and still trying to dig out of the child support hole. Kendall fucking Briles has had multiple jobs since his own shit hit the fan. Zach Smith is nothing more than an unapologetic nepo baby shit heel.

Read that again. McCord over STROUD.

Meh… this was 2 years ago when they both were unknown prolific recruits. Well before CJ Stroud was CJ Stroud. Not sure the point of a post from this long ago does.

We will see what happens today and going forward between the 2 QBs. Hate that it’s a competition this far into the season but it is what it is.

Kendall fucking Briles is not ART fucking Briles btw who still can’t land a meaningful job.

Last thing because this isn’t the thread to do this I know. I didn’t say Zach was a great coach I said a good coach and there’s a difference. What irks me though is the lack of any kind of appreciation for how he left that room. As I said love him or hate him his rooms always played hard, that room improved greatly over what he inherited and he left that room to Hartline absolutely loaded with more talent on the way.

To portray Hartline as a guy who inherited nothing and built his room from the ground just couldn’t be further from the truth. He took what Zach Smith had built and turned it up to 11 and again there’s no slight against either Zach or Brian to admit that.

Anyways happy game day!! Pulling for Devin (and Kyle) today!!

You may have once confused Kendall and Art, but I haven’t. You’re right however in the great =\= very good (which you said) but in any case Zach Smith is none of the above.

Happy game day indeed…and I do hope you’ll continue rooting for both QBs and not morph back into buckIpower in the game threads if either get off to a slow start.

That said, we will agree to disagree on Zach.
