QB Devin "Utah" Brown (Official Thread)

If I was a guy like Brown going into college these days I'd go to a smaller school like Kentucky or Iowa or wherever I could start immediately and then you can look at transferring to a bigger school if you want as you go into each year. He's most likely going to end up with 2 years of basically not playing. I get there is some benefit to being at a program with Ohio State with the the training and learning from the best coaches but not as much as actually playing. Look at a guy like Brock Purdy. I understand they weren't the same level of recruit but all those reps Purdy got in college were huge, no matter the level of competition.

Brown was a borderline 5 star and the only QB we took in his class. I don't know why he would settle for Iowa or Kentucky immediately out of HS

I see where you’re going, but as pointed out by @OregonBuckeye, he was the only QB in the class and pretty much knew he’s riding pine for at least one if not two years with the current QB room. It’s a choice to go the route that Joey B went as opposed to the one you’re suggesting.

Not only that but he was probably told he would get a chance to compete — nothing promised — but could compete.

Then he’s told he’ll play week 1; it’s disclosed to the public — then he doesn’t play.

I dunno. I

I think a lot of folks in Buckeyeland are putting way to much thought into this whole situation. There’s a whole lot of hand wringing and much ado about nothing here.

We’re 1 game in…..R-E-L-A-X…..and let the QB situation play itself out.
Some fans need to get their medical card and chill the F out :pimp:

Entirely possible that Brown has more upside but has also been more inconsistent and/or turned the ball over more in practice.

If true, he wouldn’t be my starter either but I’d want him to keep fighting for that starting spot and keep getting better.
Conversely, if McCord is so fragile that he will check out or freak out if Brown is given 50% of the snaps in game 1, then perhaps McCord isn’t cut out for QB1 at OSU.

Day owes Brown an equal shot since he said they were basically equal…….or damn close to it.

I just wish Day would be up front rather try to be the smartest guy in the room. He isn’t.

Not sure where you got any of this from and your comments about KM are pretty close IMO to bashing a player.

Day owes no one, least of all a fan, anything.

He’s pretty damn smart.

Though, I agree with you largely. If it was really back and forth then Devin should have been given a shot. I also think Day panicked on Saturday which is evident by him not sticking to his own plan.

Day has given multiple reasons why Devin didn’t play. After the game it was that everything felt clunky so he didn’t want to make even more messed up. Then it went to how they felt it was just too close to put Devin in and then finally it’s morphed into how there wasn’t enough drives to put Devin in.

Overall, I’m done with it. It clearly wasn’t as close as everyone thought but I agree that Day portrayed that they were basically a toss up. So I think people see the struggles last Saturday and naturally are bothered they couldn’t see if the other guy (who was stated as an equal QB) could have more success.

Either way this will work itself out in South Bend. Either McCord kills it and we roll or McCord really struggles and then Day probably has to make the move going into the bye week.

This sounds like a lot of projection on your part
