Kids want to compete, but they also want to play. By what you're saying, did Joe Burrow not want to compete?
My point is saying "babysitting", is that our coaches are going to play the best, and can't worry about everyone being hurt for not getting in. Kids enroll at OSU and any top program wanting to compete, but also wanting to actually play.
Counter point Rosen, Clausen, and Barkley were all rally highly rated coming out of highschool.Extenuating circumstances aside, Fromm and Stroud had pretty much the same ranking coming out of high school (actually eerily similar rankings - look it up on 247). Not sure he was a “pleb” then nor is he one now (on an nfl team).

Yep. In 2018, Fromm was 9th in the country in passing efficiency, Dwayne Haskins was 8th.Fromm's stat sheet was limited by UGAs offense, he was hardly a Pleb. Maybe not "wow" but he was decent. You could argue his #s woulda been better if he had the benefit of playing in Ohio State's offense.
The USC comparison isn't valid because there wasn't a transfer portal then, and I highly doubt all of those QBs sit and wait their turns if they could leave and play elsewhere, just look at the QB talent that schools like Clemson, Washington, UGA, etc accumulated and how many left. Kids want to get to play on Sundays. Yes, the development is great, but if you can't show your talents on the field, then what are you doing? QBs don't make the league by sitting and developing with no actual game film. My main statement is that the best will play, and that still rings true. Day will develop, but the best players will see the field, and the others will not. It’s my opinion, but saying they want “to play” over-simplifies it.
They come to be developed….bc Ryan Day has the reputation of being a QB guru and has an effective system.
It wasn’t that long ago USC was deemed QBU and was pumping backups like Matt Cassel into the league with limited game experience.
To be clear, I do not expect a kid like Jack Miller to stick around until he graduates. But he’s also in a “no lose” situation where he can learn under Day for 2-3 years and then effectively becomes a free agent.
I just think it’s doing the kids a bit of disservice to speculate when they’re going to transfer, when the truth of the matter is, they may be perfectly content absorbing as much as they can, and aren’t even focused on transferring yet. And there’s no babysitting needed.
In fact, with the way Day develops relationships, I’d fully expect he is included in transfer discussions, including best potential fits, looking out for the best continued development to build on what they got at tOSU.
Hmm did Haskins and Fields profit off the NameImageLikeness of tOSU or was it strictly talent/the individual..Haskins?Are we doing the Fromm discussion again? Here's something high school QBs should really care about when picking a college offense/program/head coach:
Dwayne Haskins has made $14.4 million in the NFL - fully guaranteed.
Justin Fields will make $18.8 million in the NFL - fully guaranteed.
Jake Fromm has made $900k in the NFL. If he can stick with the Bills, he might make $3.6 million by 2023. Maybe.
I think Haskins and Fields performed well on the field and their teams paid them money on their initial deals because of it.Hmm did Haskins and Fields profit off the NameImageLikeness of tOSU or was it strictly talent/the individual..Haskins?
I’m dumb enough to think the coaching and teammates for sure got Haskins paid..if he was what his draft status said he was he’d be starting in Washington today.I think Haskins and Fields performed well on the field and their teams paid them money on their initial deals because of it.
