QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

They profited off of:
- Their talent
- Their coaching
- Their exposure
- The OSU brand

Players can benefit while also having their likeness exploited/stolen.

Meanwhile every other QB in my 38 years has been mostly useless to the NFL despite all of that brand and exposure.

And the most valuable QBs in that era:
- Terrelle Pryor, arguably a bigger recruit than Ewers (before college), had his career ruined by getting his under the table
- Troy Smith, possibly the best OSU qb before Fields, almost had his career sidetracked for the same. Wasted OSU's best team in 40 years (You can argue about Day's since).
- JT Barrett, top-6 qb easily, didn't take that backroom payday, made huge sums for OSU/ESPN/BTN (arguably his greatest value was as a lightning rod, which is great for ratings).
2006 was lights out on offense but had serious defensive issues. IMO both 2015 and 2019 were better teams (my vote is 2019).

Whatever happened to the art of the follow-up question? When a coach says something like:

BAMF Brian Hartline said:
C.J. absolutely has elevated our game, and we are a better room because of him playing quarterback.

The first follow up question is, "What about him has elevated your game?"

How he answers that will determine where you go from there, but you need to find out if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Has he elevated your game by understanding what the coaches are trying to accomplish like Justin did and holding everyone accountable?

Has he elevated your game by reading defenses, making quick reads and always throwing to the right receiver, accurately and on-time?

Has he elevated your game by throwing inaccurately, forcing guys to have to work to get the ball?

Has he elevated your game by throwing the ball into traffic, forcing guys to fight for the ball?

That statement is intriguing, but it tells me nothing until I hear the answers to some rather obvious follow-up questions.

They may not have asked because a couple of the WRs answered the question in their own way. Just guessing though.

I love Stroud….so excited to see what he does this year.

He’s tough to compare, IMO. He’s not as physical as DeShaun (he isn’t gonna shake guys hanging on him in pocket and make super athletic plays). But his throwing motion is much more natural fluid than DeShaun’s. I think DeShaun has more arm strength (not by a lot) but CJ has more touch.

What I really like about CJ as opposed to Justin, is his ability to check down. He gets there quicker than we’ve seen in past. When you combine that with his touch on deep ball, it’s unique.

Im trying to find a comparison I like, but it’s tricky. He has mobility, but he likes to stay in pocket. He has a good arm but it’s not a bullet like Haskins. He does have some creativity and escapability, but it isn’t the crazy play making we saw from Burrow.

Its almost like if you took a little from Haskins, Burrow, and Fields…..you’d have CJ. And that’s a good thing.

I kinda feel like from an NFL comp he’s a combo of Tannehill and Jared Goff. Similar throwing motion as Goff and can make similar throws, with similar legs to Tannehill. I’m really excited to see how it plays out with the talent around him.
