It definitely was worse on Saturday, but I'm really interested in what Tulsa did defensively and to hear from smarter people what they did and if it make sense that Stroud would struggle more. He missed throws, but they also drop 8 consistently and I'm wondering if this was closer to the NW game last year when he got impatient and out of sync due to easier throws not always being there.
Everything I've read and heard says that he can't pull the ball in those situations. They aren't actual reads. I think they need to be, at least a few, and he needs to take some easy yards if he can on scrambles.
He's 19. Not surprised, and he's obviously feeling pressure and frustrated with misses he's had. I don't think it's that abnormal for a young QB. He just needs to outgrow it.
1. You are correct. The 3-3-5 is a very difficult defense to play against, if ran properly. They consistently drop 8 into coverage to muddy the passing windows. Real hard for a young QB.
2. You are correct. None of those are read options. It sucks that a lot of fans can’t tell the difference and then rag on the QB for not making a choice that wasn’t supposed to be made in the first place.
3. Agree. I’m not sure what people expected from him. There’s been moments from each of our QB’s since Meyer/Day have been here that they’ve been rattled and played poorly. It’s expected. He just needs to grow from it.
