QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

I get the logic of 'go get the best 4 you can and let them compete for it" but what's tricky is the reality that the other three can, and are likely to, leave before you are sure you made the right decision and before you can go get three more just as good.

I'm hoping the NIL money can keep some guys in place that would otherwise leave or this could be a real mess.
Yep. Look at Georgia. They chose Fromm over Fields. I don't think it worked out for them. It could be argued (not by me) that Haskins over Burrow is the same.

I hope Day makes the right decision.

Yeah...people use hindsight with the Burrow/Haskins situation. But let’s be honest, LSU got a very mediocre 2018 Burrow and a Heisman Burrow in 2019 with Joe Brady.

What people fail to mention when discussing that situation is two components. 1. Burrow wasn’t that good in 2018 when Haskins was breaking BigTen records. 2. If Burrow is at Ohio State then Justin Fields likely doesn’t come.

So the question with people needs to be, would you choose Haskins/Fields for 3 years? Or Burrow for 2 years?

The current situation with Stroud is much more difficult. He’s shown signs that he can be great down the road. Unfortunately if Day makes a move now, it could send Stroud straight to the portal. And we haven’t seen McCord enough to really know if he would be better. Maybe he is. But it could cause some major problems of Stroud is benched without knowing how McCord handles himself. That’s why Kyle has to get in some game reps.

I think all these conversations are really moot now with the portal. There are no more JT Barretts that are going to be 4 and 5 year guys. Better plan for 2 years max at Ohio State because either they are going to be superstars and leave by then after ridiculous production or they're getting passed by someone else who will and transfer. You think beyond that and maybe you aren't the right coach for Ohio State or Alabama or Clemson or Georgia etc.

Thats the point. It HASN’T been coming from the WHAC. Just the internet. And it’s only going to get louder after a game against probably the worst team in the country.
Day doesn’t care, Stroud shouldn’t care. If it causes McCord Miller or Ewers to reevaluate their situation that is up to Day to handle. Look at Nagy no matter the fans ..Dalton is his starter. Oh Btw if it bothers you don’t go on Strouds thread or the game thread..especially the game thread not a lot of deep thought it’s emotional reactions.

Tulsa lost to a FCS team this year, not sure if we get any more layups. If McCord looks better against Akron give the kid a shot. Unfortunately injuries do end up having people lose their jobs. Not the right way to lose one but football is about what have you done for me lately. Let Stroud rest the shoulder and be ready for BIG play.

Here comes the McCord Hype Train, let him hit some deep balls to Olave and Wilson. Lets have a QB competition boys. Elevate the play of the QB and this team can still reach the levels it set out.

C.J. STROUD WILL PLAY ONLY IN “EMERGENCY CAPACITY” AGAINST AKRON DUE TO SHOULDER INJURY, KYLE MCCORD OR JACK MILLER TO START AT QUARTERBACK

“Going into this game, we’ve asked C.J. to probably take these last couple of days off and rest that shoulder,” Day said Thursday on his radio show. “Kyle and Jack have done a good job, and so the plan right now is to probably, we’ll see how today goes, but probably use C.J. in somewhat of an emergency capacity on Saturday and play some of those other guys.”

Day told reporters on Thursday that Stroud's shoulder injury is not serious but that they felt it was in his best interest to take the week off from throwing.

“I don’t think C.J.’s situation is serious,” Day said. “But we did feel like some rest would go a long way.”

Day did not specify whether McCord or Miller would be the starting quarterback, though McCord has been second in the quarterback line behind Stroud during pregame warmups before the first three games. He said a starting quarterback will likely be chosen Friday after evaluating how Thursday's practice goes, and that the plan is to choose one quarterback to start and play the majority of the game rather than rotating between McCord and Miller.

“I have faith in both of those guys,” Day said.
