It's just something guys are taught to say because if you watch press conferences sports reporter will come up with the dumbest questions to just a question in. Players are just media savy in terms of how and when they announce things. They do it on their own terms now.

It's kind of like how players know not to give opposing teams bulletin board material to quote. Those quotes probably don't really matter but they don't want to be the one to give it to them then get the blow back from it when a reporter decides to write a story about it.

More on topic of Stroud though, I think he doesn't run because he has never develop that instinct on the field. He has very little rushing yards from high school, less than 10 yards a game. He has one reception in his senior year. He is seemingly a good athlete but I think his arm talent has always been there and they just asked him to be a passing QB. It doesn't seem like they even tried to utilize him at another position when he was a freshman or sophomore.

I have not been impressed with CJ Stroud. I am a person with strong religious views, but I don't like the pointing to the sky as if God loves one more than the players on the other side of the field who gave their best. I do not see the ability to inspire a team to perform in difficult circumstances. I don't see someone who is willing to put himself on the line for his team. I do not think he ever belonged in the Heisman conversation.

I see a decent young man with a very good arm and many admirable qualities, but I don't see a man who will ever be a success in the NFL.

JJ put his team on his back today and willed them to a win. He’s nowhere near the talent of stroud, but it didn’t matter.

JJ did not put them on his back. He actually missed several open throws throughout the game. He did hit three absolutely wide open long td, two of which he majorly under threw. Take away two blown coverages and and 75 yard missed tackle and his stat line would look pretty bad.

He did play well in the second half with his legs…I was at the game and at halftime I was saying the lanes were wide open for them to start using designed QB runs. We were shadowing with a LB which was not going to work.

I mostly agree except I think he was the emotional leader for them. He played HIS best game of his career on the biggest stage so far.

For example JJ McCarthy probably isn't a 1st round pick so these games to him are more meaningful I'd imagine. Like you point out..Fields and Stroud chose Ohio State to go pro so there's not that level of determination I'd imagine as a kid who might not even play at the next level.

Justin Fields and Caleb Williams can make your playcallers into geniuses. CJ and Day couldn’t find that dynamic. CJ had to do it with his arm ..he was late a lot is that him or play call.

Is it a poor attitude or a “healthy” attitude by not being myopic?

We all know that his faith is important to him and I often wonder if that shapes the narrative he creates by believing there are bigger things in life than sports?

CJ appears to be a helluva dude that has overcome a lot and striven for more.
Unfortunately, for me, he doesn't understand that The Game is the only thing that matters for a lot of the Buckeye fan base. In that, I'm disappointed.
I'm sure he's disappointed about the loss, but the reasons of said disappointment probably don't align with mine.

the big difference last year in the rose bowl was - and this is a SIGNIFICANT difference compared to this year - is that he was hungry and out to prove something.

this year... not so much. seemed to me he thought everything was his to lose, so he was trying to just not screw up. and a team who was hungrier with a punk qb who was also hungrier and out to prove something came, for the second year in a row, and snatched the prize.

simple as that.
