QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

Great point and I never thought of it that way.

For example JJ McCarthy probably isn't a 1st round pick so these games to him are more meaningful I'd imagine. Like you point out..Fields and Stroud chose Ohio State to go pro so there's not that level of determination I'd imagine as a kid who might not even play at the next level.
Even then Fields was a leave a body parts on the field for a win type of guy. Not everyone is that way and not everyone should be expected to conform to that mold or get the fuck out. It also doesn't mean they don't care. Different personalities react differently.

Fields had that runner instinct to his game though. He averaged 110 yards rushing per game in high school. Stroud has never been a runner. He averaged less than 10 yards rushing per game in high school. I think he has always been a great arm talent and he had never been asked to use his legs to win games.

Stroud is a good runner but very unwilling to tuck the ball and run. He doesn't have that timer in his head to just pick up yards with his feet. I think Day should have also worked on that with Stroud. Having a QB that can and will run is always an advantage in college football. They only asked Stroud to start running late in this season but they never laid the foundation for him to be comfortable doing it. They seem to be fine with him never taking the ball on the zone read and didn't seem to correct him on never just taking the yards on a scramble.

True but I don't think guys go around announcing they are going pro before their college career is over especially with meaningful games like the college playoffs.

Thats so he could go through senior day ceremony since he is a 4th year player.

He is listed as a rsJR this season. Regardless of the reason, the point was he announced he was going pro last Tuesday even though he had another year of eligibility left.

Did he even play today? ..

He's listed in the box score has made 3 tackles, .5 TFL, and 1 PD.

My point was that he had a reason for announcing it. Stroud doesn't have a reason to announce it yet with the slim possiblity they could still get voted into the CPF since it could be viewed as a distraction if they do get in.

I think you're getting too technical with the stuff I'm saying. I could nitpick stuff too like Ronnie Hickman actually has two seasons of eligibility left because the NCAA gave everyone an extra year in 2020, but I don't think that adds value to the conversation. I think most people understood what I wrote and didn't feel the need to nitpick every detail.

I don’t really see how CJ announcing something that literally the entire world already thinks is happening would be a distraction in the least.

The kid has looked like ass in the biggest game of the year two years in a row now and he knows it. He’s probably got a lot of shit in his mind. Its 99.9999999% that he’s leaving but I think it’s reasonable, in the immediate aftermath, to just be like “I don’t know man”

I agree with the second part but announcing that you are going pro and they get into the playoffs opens him up to a whole bunch of questions from the media when they go through media day. Then if there are any hiccups they will be asking him if he was holding back because he is turning pro.

While it might not be a huge distraction, it best to just tow the normal line of I don't know or I haven't thought about it, then wait til the season is over for him. That might mean he announces it at the same time as he says he is sitting out the bowl game because he won't want to risk injury for a meaningless game.

Most people already think that’s why he’s scared shitless to run and throws off his back foot to avoid taking hits in the pocket. I just feel like you’re overthinking this.
