QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

after what he did last year in the Rose Bowl… I thought he had whatever it what it took… I dont know what has happened if he’s regressed, poor coaching, lack of being able to call the offense or what .. but just disappointed

I hate the "check with me" offense that Urban, Kevin Wilson, and Ryan Day run. I feel like this started with Wilson at Oklahoma with Sam Bradford back in the mid to late 00's -- at least it's the first I really noticed it. -- Give your QB two or three play sets from the formation and let them diagnose and decide what to do. The philosophy of looking back to the sideline for adjustments does not help your QB's development, and additionally results in too many delay of game penalties and unforced timeouts spent.

Justin Fields and Caleb Williams can make your playcallers into geniuses. CJ and Day couldn’t find that dynamic. CJ had to do it with his arm ..he was late a lot is that him or play call.

the big difference last year in the rose bowl was - and this is a SIGNIFICANT difference compared to this year - is that he was hungry and out to prove something. this year... not so much. seemed to me he thought everything was his to lose, so he was trying to just not screw up. and a team who was hungrier with a punk qb who was also hungrier and out to prove something came, for the second year in a row, and snatched the prize.
simple as that.

Hell, worship fucking Meatloaf. I didn't give a shit. Just beat those peckerwoods up north.

CJ didn't have to do it with his arm, he was unwilling to commit himself to the run to help his team. This is so well displayed in his statement that he did not know if he would play in an non-CFP bowl game. An Ohio State quarterback who makes such a statement should have determined that he will not play immediately.

Perhaps I am wrong, but what I see is a kid who is not committed to his team...involved certainly, committed no. I just don't believe that he played for his team so much as he played for himself. Again, his inability to answer whether he would play again for Ohio State is a stunningly selfish statement.

As I said, I am a person of faith. I respect that this young man and many members of this team appear to have strong religious beliefs. However, I also believe that one's faith is your own deeply personal set of beliefs. The constant repeating of, "First, I..." is not appropriate in my opinion. In my opinion, and perhaps it is just me, but I believe it detracts from interviews and it makes others on the team who do not share his beliefs feel "somewhat less than." In one interview with another player, he inappropriately shifted the discussion about the player's performance to his attendance at Bible classes. The pointing to the sky after every successful pass suggests that somehow God is blessing him but not the poor devoted person of faith playing for another team that will win only one game this year.

I have done lots of interviews with the electronic and press media in my life. I think anyone who puts on a uniform or represents an institution needs to always remember that being there for the institution shapes what is appropriate behavior.

So, I am not criticizing his faith. I am saying that I do not believe an interview about a game is a place to comment on or promote one's personal faith or religious beliefs. I am saying that it is appropriate to share those beliefs in a situation when people are gathered for worship or religious discussion.

I wish him well in his future endeavors and deeply appreciate what he contributed. However, I think that game should be his last.

So if he were 2-20 as a QB he would be a winner to you as long as it was against scUM?

You guys are insane.

You are making up that nonsensical argument, not me.

He failed to win a B1G East title, a B1G title or get a win as a starting QB in The Game. How is that "winning" as a starting OSU QB?

Would you prefer he be a Satanist, Hindu, etc….?
Satanist work for Jack Tatum.

Thump I appreciate you being positive on your posts and supporting the boys, but you have to admit this kids Blaise attitude and complete refusal to use his legs safetly to get first downs really really hurt this teams ceiling.

Also Jack Tatum being a Satanist worked for me!

I think the criticism is pretty harsh at moment. Sucks he's 0-2 against Michigan, but his numbers last year were solid, and his teammates really let him down this year.

Cade Stover was an absolute mess on Saturday (really unfortunate after a strong season).....Cade should've had the 4th and 2 catch. Cade should've had a huge Touchdown catch. And Cade caused the last interception late in the game with the ball going off his hand.

Even Marvin dropped a perfectly thrown ball.

Also, tOSU had a semi-curious run game with swing passes to Xavier Johnson, and the WR screens we've seen used with limited success throughout the year (several worked for 5-7 yards, but it was also blown up many times Saturday).

We had a nice wrinkle with the use of Chip at RB to establish some type of run game, but as per usual under a Day coached team, I think the playbook was very limited in what could be called with Chip on the field. OSU is super predictable in play-calling and that adds to CJ's plate, rather than alleviating him.

And should tOSU miss the playoffs, I'd actually be happy to see McCord get the start in a spotlight game to see what we have going into 2023. It'd be nearly 5 weeks of bowl preparation for him and be a great lead-in to next season. Would also give Devin Brown a lot of bowl practice time as the #2.....
