QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I thought Cardale played fine. Although Elliot should have gotten the MVP of the game. I thought the two deep throws to Smith should have been intercepted if the D-Back would have been looking for the ball. Smith just wanted the ball more. I don't think we would get away with that from any of the teams we would meet in the playoff.

He reminded me a lot of Pryor the way he throws the ball deep. The deep balls look like jump balls that either our guy or their guy could have gotten. Pryor threw the same kind of deep ball. Not to say he can't fix this. Barrett's picks during the Virginia Tech game were the same way and JT overcame that. We will see how they fix this as they move into the playoffs.

This is how tOSU produces great backups:

“He’s [Cardale] been in the program for plenty of time,” Ohio State tackle Taylor Decker said. “The way we run our system, he gets almost as many reps in practice as the starter does. So I think he’s always been ready. And then J.T. and Braxton [Miller] I’m sure helped him in his preparation. I couldn’t give a really clear-cut answer how he managed it. I don’t think anybody was expecting him to come out and play like that, and it was amazing that he did.”

I was very impressed with his pocket presence. I think everybody had been viewing him as a runner, dual-threat or Blake Bell type of guy, but that was one hell of a pocket passing performance last night. Stood tall and stepped up. Was elusive without scrambling much, stood his ground and took shots to deliver the ball when he had to. We've had some good pocket passing moments over the last several years, but as a complete-game performance it was probably the best of that style for the Buckeyes since the days of Joe Germaine.

Wow. I dont think I've every disagreed with someone on this forum, but I think you've got it backward here. The first deep ball was a 50/50 ball, but beyond that pass he was nearly perfect. The deep runner over the shoulder? CB doesnt have a chance in hell to locate the ball when he can barely keep up with the receiver. Perfect pass. The way he stood in the pocket and took hits, ingored the rush, and threw the ball with confidence is the most impressive thing IMO. I never thought Pryor was a good passer, and it was pretty clear IMO after his second year that he was never going to be a good passer. Pryor doesnt have near the arm power that Jones does. Comparing them isnt an option IMO. He's going to destroy bama, and I cant wait.
