QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I love State and all, but I am not nearly ready to crown us Kings because we beat VTech in Blacksburg. Some guys on here make it sound like the Bud Foster defense has never been beat in Blacksburg or something? I think we all need to step back and remember VT went 7-6 last year, 3-5 in conference play and got beat by UC in a bowl. East Carolina beat them in Blacksburg the week after they beat us for Christs sake. I don't want to hear let down either. In 2013 they were 8-5 and 5-3 in conference and went on to lose to UCLA in a bowl. 2012 they went 7-6. 4-4 in conference and lost to Rutgers in a bowl.
They also had a shit-ton of injuries last year.

We are only the third team to put up 42 points against a Beamer-coached team in Lane Stadium...and that's with three turnovers. I'd say it wasn't a bad showing...

Blah blah blah...

This will be the greatest offense in TOSU history and possibly NCAA history. I've watched way too much college football to sit here and pretend that is not the case. When I read the roster, you're goddamn right this is the most ridiculous collection of talent I've ever seen. And behind every starter, Urban has the next best collection of talent just waiting their turns. I would be perfectly capable of seeing this on another team's roster, so I'm not going to shy away from saying it when its on the Buckeyes' roster. If shit gets derailed along the way, so be it. That's college football. But when this team does exactly what it is capable of doing, better enjoy every minute cause you may not ever see it again and its gonna be over before you know it...

A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Urban's art is plungering.

All I am saying is claiming after week one we could be the best offense of all time is a little premature after beating VT.
Well then I'm going to need two things from you.
1. Please let me know when we're allowed to talk about what COULD BE.
2. Please let me know if there's a point on your scale between "don't utter a word about future possibilities" and "you're all hitting the bong and I'm embarrassed by it".

JFC. You even used the "could be" in your explanation of what you're all up in a tizzy about. It's not unrealistic at all to think that a team that scored at will against Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon....then did it again with half an offensive lineup against a VT team that held that previously mentioned OSU team in check for a whole game.....to think that offense COULD BE one of the best?

No. You're right. Only somebody under the influence could possibly suggest that.

I'm under the influence. I have a scarlet and gray addiction that seems to be raging out of control this year. Yes, the season just started. Yes, greater upsets have happened. Yes, Ohio State has known the sting of disappointment, but I intend to be an optimist this year - something I'm not prone to be.

And now, Hstead, if you'd be so kind as to take this thread back to a discussion of Cardale I'd be much obliged.

Well put, we could very well be witnessing history in the making. I am going to just sit back and enjoy the ride and know that no matter what happens this will be one of the greatest collection of Buckeyes ever assembled :oh: :io:

Back to topic...

I have to admit I thought JT would be the starter but I was hoping for 12 guage. I was telling everyone I knew who asked JT was going to be the starter for sure. But when CJ trotted onto the field to take the first snap I was really happy. Don't get me wrong, I would have been greatful for either guy but there's just something about Jones that is so likeable. I don't know how anyone could not root for the guy, he's just so nice and goofy. Seeing Scarlet and Grey days and watching him have fun but work his tail off too only helped my perseption of the guy.

The best thing was seeing those two posters in his room... just to know this guy went from probably never seeing the field at Ohio State to going down in Buckeye history as one of the best runs ever!

As @AKAK said above, I love seeing the power running game and deep pass threat as opposed to the option altohugh I could watch either with the amount of speed and talent our Bucks have

Cardale is 4 and 0 against whisky Bama Oregon and Va Tech none at home. I was a JT or Braxton guy cause I thought Cardale was not serious enough about the job ahead. I was wrong..I trust Urban now completely he is there every day and his track record is OK.

I think a lot of Buckeye fans, including myself, are on board with that thought. Who am I to critique Urban and his staff with the run he's on with this team right now? That being said, going forward I want to see a little more of the power running game and the deep passing threat and a little less (don't completely eliminate it though...gotta keep defenses honest) of CJ running the read-option if that's the case. He doesn't read it like JT nor does he attack the line of scrimmage like Barrett. I feel a lot of people, outsiders included, are enamored with Cardale's personality, size/running style and big arm and not his actual production on the field. With the exception of a few steam-rolling runs, nobody can convince me that JT couldn't have had a 3 game stretch at the end of the yr that was just as or more productive than Jone's or wouldn't have done the same or better in Blacksburg Monday night. Just my two cents.

Idk this offense could def be our GOAT but as a team I'm really worried about how we gave up 17 first half pts to VT and on top of it an extra 7 to that back up qb

Well, Zeke's muffed punt was a contributing factor, and this has been a problem for five years. Whether it was Philly, Jalin, or Elliott, it sure seems like OSU is good for one fumbled return a game. The one against Clemson was a back breaker.

Add to that Hubbard replacing Bosa on the front line. Hubbard was a force on the pass rush, but he struggled a bit in the run game (as did the entire line). The fact that Hubbard can now assume more of a pass rush supporting role to an already ridiculously athletic d-line is scary to think about. Finally, these guys have what? 9 weeks to really work on polishing everything up.

Can't say I'm really THAT worried.

As for the QB situation, I'm beginning to rethink my thoughts on who plays Saturday. With the shortened week, it would make sense to give JT the start to keep our guys fresh. Really don't think we can go wrong either way.

I honestly don't think CJ deep ball is any more of a threat than JT's .Sure CJ can throw it 45 yards on 1 foot when scrambling but for all we know JT gets outside faster and has time to plant his feet and make the same throw.

I agree and disagree. For example, on the first TD throw, JT would get outside faster, but I don't think he's able to step into that throw enough to make that a TD.

The deep ball does gets overplayed. JT was fine in that area last year, and while Cardale CAN throw the ball farther, that's not why he's starting over JT. His arm strength does matter, but for the intermediate throws and some of the broken plays when you won't be able to step into the throw. Also, he's much more difficult to sack than JT. I believe that Urban knows the offense is more consistent under JT, but looks at the physical ability of Cardale and is planning for MSU and the playoffs when the passing windows will most likely be smaller and the DLs more physical.

I haven't read the last few pages but just wanted to pop in and say this will be the greatest offense in history. Not tOSU history but recorded history. Not just in football either. We're probably going to outscore loyola with bo Kimble.

Urban's gonna set some new high scores.
