QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Honorable mention for favorite play of the night: Cardale breaks through the line for 15 yards and looks back at a chasing linebacker, realizing he won't outrun him, Cardale stops and goes back to hit the linebacker, hoping to knock him on his ass so he can go back to running forward.

I think he believes he must hit someone on every play.

Apparently he is now the Heisman frontrunner according to sportsbook bovada.

I'll be interested to see if he can get the stats to make it to New York. He ran much better than I thought he would, so it's not unreasonable to think he can get ~500 yards and 8 TDs on the ground. With Marshall, Wilson, & Smith back, he should be able to put up some big passing stats, it just depends on how many snaps JT also takes.

I think with the next few(9 game) till the end of the season should give Cardale plenty of reps at the starter to mature and progress as a QB. Although I was kind of thinking Barrett would start, have to remember took JT a few games to really settle in. 3 games to end the year offseason then the first game of the year in a hostile stadium i didn't think he would come out and be perfect. Luckily we have a month and a half to see this offense gel. Not to mention we were out 3 starters on offense.

CJ is a good north/south runner. He can be an intimidating force and is not afraid of contact. He was very effective Monday night running the ball. He just isn't an option type QB and those type of plays should be removed from his playbook.

Yeah he's much better with deciding the give when the rb/wr/hb is going parallel to the line of scrimmage and all he has to do when he pulls it is putt his foot in the ground and go north/south. Rather then option out on the edge.

Sooo... let me see if I have this right. We have a historically good point total against a Frank Beamer team in Blacksburg and we're still having to wait for the offense to gel?

The really scary part is, I kinda agree with that. I'm pretty sure our expectations might be a little out of control right now.

I can't wait until CJ hangs 35 on Hawaii in the first half but JT does 42... then see how that goes.

Personally, I was very pleasantly surprised to see Cardale come out to start the game... and it selfish, its because with him at QB they'll play the kind of football I really like to watch... power run, vertical passing, explosive plays... I really don't like read option and dink and dunk passing, but, that's just my preference... gonna be fun either way. Stop turning the ball over, everyone!

Yes the offense overall put up some great production for what they faced but it was far from perfect and part of that is the play calls(option plays) still saw a lot of room for improvement especially the 50% completion percentage. If that's what we can do without 3 offensive skill players and being first game of the season and in a tough road game I'm sold that this offense may be the best in school history and possibly college football history. We saw 3 quarters of good football. When they get in 4 quarters of solid play, this team will be unstoppable of offense.

I love State and all, but I am not nearly ready to crown us Kings because we beat VTech in Blacksburg. Some guys on here make it sound like the Bud Foster defense has never been beat in Blacksburg or something? I think we all need to step back and remember VT went 7-6 last year, 3-5 in conference play and got beat by UC in a bowl. East Carolina beat them in Blacksburg the week after they beat us for Christs sake. I don't want to hear let down either. In 2013 they were 8-5 and 5-3 in conference and went on to lose to UCLA in a bowl. 2012 they went 7-6. 4-4 in conference and lost to Rutgers in a bowl.

I have felt VT is historically over rated pre-season damn near year in and year out. They aren't even ranked this pre-season.

I would be saying the same thing to BamaFanMan or UGaFan if they were bragging about hanging 42 on Bud Foster's defense.

So let's all step back from the bong and realize we played a pretty decent game against most likely a decent team, but we need to wait and see how good Tech actually is at the end of the year and we need to shelf the "Best Offense in college History" talk until later on in the year, like WAY WAY Later on when we actually know if we have beaten a good team yet.

We lost to that team last year and ended up kicking the shit out of Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon to win the National Championship. I'm supposedly smoking weed to think that, after we destroyed them, the offense is that special?

We fucked around with stupid turnovers and took a quarter off, and still put up 42 with a ton of backups playing in the 4th. Rephrased: We played probably 2 quarters at a high level (but still kinda sloppy), and we scored 42 points. And we didn't even feature one of the best RBs in the history of the program.

I think the person with the bong is the one saying "Hey guys pump the brakes....we might not be that good."
