QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

My dad has called OSU "State" forever, so I have called them State as well for 40+ years. In this part of Ohio when you say "State", everyone knows who you are referring to because there is only one "State" in the country as far as we are concerned.

I can just see it now if ichigan or Bama, or Oregon were claiming to be the "Greatest Offense in College History" after beating what may end up being another mediocre VT team the first week of the year. We would all be making fun of them. We have a long way to go. Football is a funny sport. Injuries happen. Bad Bounces happen. Weather happens. Turnovers happen. Teams put a target on you when you are the reigning National Champs and bring their best along with trick plays etc happens.

All I am saying is claiming after week one we could be the best offense of all time is a little premature after beating VT. I know I would be making fun of anyone claiming that. Now at the end of the year, maybe we will have one of the best Offenses college has ever seen, but at this point it is a little early. Kind of like the posts I see claiming Eze is the best back we have ever had. That kind of stuff needs time to tell, and right now there have been some pretty dang good backs that have played at State, like the only one to ever win the Heisman twice.

I can promise you none of you are bigger Buckeye fans than I am, but I am not going to embarrass myself by claiming we are the Greatest Offense EVER and then something stupid happen like what happened when we thought we were great when a 28 point underdog MSU beat our butts at home. Now at the end of the year if we repeat and hang 40+ on everyone including the two playoff teams we face, then we can have that conversation but right now I am not going to get all excited because we beat VT. So what, so did James Madison a few years ago.

I like you Hstead. I sincerely do. But the usage of this hyperbolic horse shit gets really old. There are very few who are blowing GOAT Offense Smoke up Buckeyes asses. Just enjoy the fucking moment. If others get carried away with expectations, then what's it to you? It's better than dealing with the doomsday shit from years past.

This is true. I just think it is a little embarrassing at this point and I have read it a few too many times. It makes Buckeye Nation look bad IMHO and it fits the sterotype of BuckeyeFan that all of my SEC buddies like to throw at me, that we cannot put our team into the proper perspective. I played in the south and all of my teammates were SEC fans and I have been arguing with them for 25 years. Unfortunately I have had to eat my words a few times when we couldn't get it done a couple of times. Last year was AWESOME and it helped my 25 year argument immensely and this year those same buddies are having to admit OSU is a beast but they still throw the B1G BS at me.

SEC fans lecturing you on perspective? LOL.

Enjoy this season - however it is that works for you. Get carried away, let your guard down, analyze it within an inch of its life - whatever. We may never see our favorite team with blend of talent, personality and expectation again. Make the most of it. There's too much to like about this team to worry about stuff. My goal this year is to have more fun and be more relaxed - even if the Buckeyes lose - than fans of any other contender. Living well is the best revenge.

Yep. My father-in-law always calls them "State" too. You from out east somewhere?

It's not Buckeye Nation saying it. It's acknowledging that everybody else is saying it:

- Ohio State still has obvious things to fix. And that's terrifying for everybody else.
- The Audible: Ohio State's offense is so good it's simply unfair
- "When all front-line players are in uniform, they could be one of the most explosive teams in college football history."

That was a school record > 10 yards per play output against Virginia Tech. Double digit 20+ yard plays. I don't care if Virginia Tech goes 0-12, that kind of offensive output without the teams' #2, #3, and #4 returning H/WR players is absurd. There are literally 7 or 8 guys on the roster that can house it from anywhere. Anytime.

Revel in the moment.

True, but it's also nice to let others do the talking and revel in it rather than add too much to the platitudes.

Idk this offense could def be our GOAT but as a team I'm really worried about how we gave up 17 first half pts to VT and on top of it an extra 7 to that back up qb

Well, Zeke's muffed punt was a contributing factor, and this has been a problem for five years. Whether it was Philly, Jalin, or Elliott, it sure seems like OSU is good for one fumbled return a game. The one against Clemson was a back breaker.

Then there was the throwback... another thing that haunts us recently. Seems good for 1 TD a game.
And the out-of-bounds kickoff.
The offense is historic. The defense is good. Extremely talented, but not terribly disciplined yet -- backside defender is never there. The design of being very athletic and a little smaller has also meant they've struggled with big backs at times. Navy's FB had the dive all game, Cobb, Henry, VTech's FB got going a few times.
