QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

CBS Sports all over it:

Thankfully (some) humans can hold their breath for longer than six minutes. Otherwise, the entire state of Ohio would be a desolate wasteland after what Cardale Jones did on Twitter Friday.

Jones, the star of last year's College Football Playoff, announced in a series of tweets that he was transferring to Akron to skip the QB merry-go-round currently underway at Ohio State.

This sent everyone on Twitter and in the college football world into hysteria. Phones were ringing, g-chat messages were flying and I wouldn't be surprised if Akron's web server completely overlaoded.

Then, six minutes later, he said he was kidding, citing the little-known May Fools joke.

I'm glad he stayed away from the NFL...it could have been a Hundley-like day...he has a real chance to improve his draft stock.
I think that's false. He would've been a 2nd day kid, IMO. He had enough film to go high, that's why you strike while the irons hot. I think he has a stronger case to hurt his stock this upcoming year, because he'll be picked apart by every scout and analyst, and that's IF he starts. If he loses the position to say JT, and would fall to the last day

We agree to vehemently disagree. NFL teams are simply not drafting a kid higher because they have less information on him LOL My opinion is based on him starting and not losing his job this season.

Really? There is a reason many kids leave a year early, because they feel coming back will hurt their stock. At the end of January into February, Cardale was seen as a possible 1st rd draft pick from only starting in 3gms. He had to have a press conference to tell the nation he was returning to school. Unless he is going to be a lottery pick, coming back could've certainly hurt his stock based on where he was projected in this draft.

I think Matt Barkley was projected as a first round pick. He came back for his senior year, then got drafted in the fourth round.
Cardale may hurt his draft stock but he will gain much more in experience and an education.

Kids don't leave early bc they're afraid their stock will fall. They leave bc they think they're good enough to get paid.

And they also feel that by returning they could make less money by waiting another year. Anything from a major injury to a decrease in stats can massively decrease a players draft stock. I hope none of these things happen to Cardale, and at the least, Cardale will get a top rate education.
