QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

He's significantly better than the end of last year according to the coaching staff.

Cardale looked like the leader of the team at the Spring game, IMO. From going right in, in the circle drills(I forgot who he went against but everyone went crazy when he went out there and held his own) to giving pep talks and slaps on the back to WRs for good or bad plays. You could tell he was very relaxed and having a fun time while being watched by 99,000+. His arm strength in person is something to marvel at, kid has an absolute cannon

Agreed. You want to be the guy, act like the guy. He's acting like it's his to lose. Even athletically he looked more fluid and more comfortable. The effortless deep ball is fantastic, though somewhat inaccurate Saturday, but he also seems more comfortable with the mid-level throws.

Honestly I wasn't that impressed with his output at all in the spring game. There was no pressure to perform and no fear of getting hit. His accuracy should have been much better. His deep ball has always looked effortless. Our secondary is pretty lethal but i'm still more impressed with J.T. as a more complete QB.

I don't disagree with you as to his spring game production. I would've liked to have seen a higher completion percentage and play calling other than going deep every other down. My point was that he appears to be more comfortable with the position. I'm a JTB fan but if Jones starts to pull it all together, look out.

His lower completion percentage was a product of tossing the ball 25 yards down the field on virtually every play. I think Barrett brings a lot to the table, but I'm not sure he can even make some of those deep throws that Jones was asked to make time and time again on Saturday.

Well, think of it this way... if the "other" side of every other down is give it to Elliot, then throw deep on the others... I fail to see the problem.

Cardale remains the most talented and least consistent qb.

JT cannot unleash intermediate and deep lasers like Cardale, but he gets it out much quicker and more accurately. He also operates the option way better (decision making at the mesh point, quickness, field vision, etc)

Braxton is the most gifted runner by a mile but just an okay operator of the option. He throws a much better deep ball than JT but is not as decisive or efficient on shorter throws compared to Barrett. He is the most complete style of qb but his inefficient operation of the offense and lack of durability causes stagnation at times.

The protection was iffy for Cardale and the disruption of that pressure was more effective than normal because two light touches downed 12 gauge. There was no acl threatening pressure but it was there.

I don't really care about inconsistent yardage down field, as they abandoned offensive balance to work on his weaknesses. I also think they limited some of the intermediate routes that he throws well. This was a chance to get better and work on weaknesses and we saw why certain areas still need work.

He still needs to make decisions faster, get the ball out quicker and protect the football better. Those were weaknesses on full display against Alabama. He simply converted an obscene number of 3rd downs to overcome those earlier breakdowns, had the nation's most dominant rushing attack and a defense that played great football for about 10 of the 12 quarters in the postseason.

These are the only points you brought up that I disagree with. JT does have a quicker release, but the difference isn't that much and the amount of zip that 12 Gauge puts on the ball actually results in a net reduction in the time it gets to the receiver for throws 10+ yards down field. I also don't think there's much of a difference in accuracy either. I don't think he missed many passes against Oregon (Devin Smith bailed him out at least twice against Wisconsin, and I think 12 Gauge struggled initially against Alabama). He looked really inconsistent in the spring game, but he did have a couple great long throws. I think that by fall practice he'll have improved enough to where he'll be the clear leader.
