QB Antonio Henton (transfer to Ga. Southern and FT. Valley St.)

If Henton has to play this year outside of mop up duty we will be in for a long season. Lets just hope that he can learn from the sidelines and the lite comes on soon. He is a great athlete who doesn't have close to enough knowledge of the offense to be able to be a successful quarterback. Flashy yes but a winner right now no!!!

but needs to develop his decision making skills.
Obviously. But lets not say:
If Henton has to play this year outside of mop up duty we will be in for a long season.
I mean, no one's expecting him to come in and be perfect. And no one expected him to win the starter spot this yr..and if you did, you're fooling yourself.
Ppl are hating on the kid for his decision making, I mean, lets not go crazy over 1 intrsquad game, where he was basically going against a starting dline and lb corp. I think he did pretty well w/ the oline he had. He had the highest completion %...just get rid of the to's.

Henton still has a whole summer to develop and learn the playbook more. I think this spring game is going to drive him to become better. Also people are going way to hard on him considering this is the first scrimmage he has messed up in and in the other scrimmages the other 2 QB's have looked just as bad as Henton. But yes, the QB battle is between the other 2 QB's at this point.

I didn't see the scrimmage so I won't speculate on anyone but let me say this: Almost everyone on BP has said he has unbelievable potential but has some work ahead of him... that hardly qualifies as "hating" Antonio.

Bingo.

You cannot use the "he only had 1 second to throw the ball" excuse because he will run into those kinds of situations during the season. Tressel wants to see who will throw the ball away, or take the sack...........not make bad decisions. Unfortunately Henton really showed his youth with some of his decisions. I'm not faulting him, I'm just stating that it's unrealistic to expect him to step in this season and be a clone of Troy Smith. In the future, possibly........right now....not a chance.

Right on Big Daddy. Henton has all the tools. He just needs experience. The good news is that, considering the makeshift OL's he played behind he got a real taste of bad times and that will teach him a awful lot.
We can say that about all of our QB's.

The 1 second excuse was in response to saying he didn't go through progressions.. not decsion making.. ironically from what i recall his picks were thrown when he DID have time to go through progressions, and his decsion making under pressure wasn't too bad, he tucked and ran.. something a mobile QB has the luxury of doing.

Speils on 1460 just said he feels - even despite the 3 picks - that Henton is "the real deal" and expects him to be a huge star in the coming years. Mentioned that Henton's only been running the O for about 3 weeks, but that he showed some really good things, especially re: feeling and reacting to heat.

Speils : Upside for Antiono Henton is Heisman trophy calibur.

Henton opens eyes with flashy play

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Antonio Henton still has a lot to learn, but yesterday's Ohio State scrimmage would have been an offensive snoozer without a couple of the freshman quarterback's spectacular plays. He showed flashes of why teammates say he could be the second coming of Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. Henton is battling junior Todd Boeckman and sophomore Rob Schoenhoft for the starting job.
"He's very quick and deceptive. He's kind of hard to hit when he keeps moving, kind of like Troy was," defensive end Lawrence Wilson said.

Cont...

Troy was accident prone when he started too... Safety to Texas, multiple mishandles on the snap and hand off through out the season - still, I am not sold on a frosh QB no matter how good he is in the revamped offense though. I want someone that has more time with the team while we are still alittle green IMHO.

Hopefully we go up big and often so we can get Henton in the game every so often.

I dont like how everyone in the columbus media is saying that Henton= the next T.S .Or maybe resembles him, they have never even seen A.H play a collegiate game. The last thing a redshirt freshman needs is a people comparing him to a Heisman trophy winner. Let him win seventeen games in a row then they can start talking. For now i believe its Boekman all the way.

you don't like how many are stating that henton resembles smith? henton's playing in a college game is certainly not necessary to conclude the similarities. the resemblance is obvious. henton will truly mirror smith when he progresses from the neck up like smith did, though.

In the sense that comparing a kid who's not yet taken one snap of live college ball against the outgoing Heisman winner being akin to setting the guy up for failure, I get what you're saying. Hopefully most people will give Antionio time to develop, because saying Henton IS Troy Smith today, now is simply not fair (nor accurate.) Henton's potential, in my view, is very high.... but, again, that has to be cautioned against the reality that Troy Smith isn't the "average" QB at Ohio State.
