QB Antonio Henton (transfer to Ga. Southern and FT. Valley St.)

Doubtful. It'll be Henton who'll decide if anyone transfers. Here's how it should play out going by how the depth chart stands today:

2008:

Todd- Senior Starter
Robby- Junior 2nd string
Henton- Sophomore 3rd string
Pryor- Redshirt

2009:

Robby- Senior Starter
Henton- Junior 2nd String
Pryor- Freshman 3rd string

2010:

Henton- Senior Starter
Pryor- Sophomore 2nd string

I'm not taking into account Bauserman because I have no idea where he stands right now and if he's been progressing rapidly. This is also not including any additional QB recruits between now and then.

Personally, I do think Henton will win the starting QB battle once Todd leaves but I'm not sure if Robby would stick with us like Zwick did or transfer.

What happens when or if Pryor get's here?

First off Boeckman seems to be doing fine right now. Plus Henton does have 2 years on Pryor if/when he gets here. I see this as good spacing. Why would/should anyone transfer when there is still no one entrenched at the QB position which allows for a solid competition to become the #1. It is not like anyone is leaps and bounds over anyone just yet.

Thats what I'm sayin though with the playing time. Robbie is more likely to get the playing time this year in mop up duty. So if thats the case I just worry that in 2009 we will see the same thing that happened to Troy in 2004. That is Tressel playing Robbie (Zwick) just because he's had more meaningful game reps, rather than playing the QB that will make the Offense more Versatile and maybe more effective. I just worry about too much favortism because we know the only reason Troy got a shot is because of an injury to Justin.

I know no one is the cemented #2 but I do believe Robbie will be given every opportunity to win the starting position first in 2009 and IF he messes up then Antonio will be given a shot. Tressel has always favored upperclassmen and the only reason we don't see Seniority play a bigger factor in other positions is because their's 5 position on the offensive line, theres 4 men on the D-line, there's 3 linebackers that have to play, etc.... But with the QB there's only one that can be on the field which means if he goes with a person based on seniority it can possibly be the wrong choice.

If Robbie gives this team a chance to win more so over Antonio thats great but we won't really know till both get the same amount of series, throws, reps, etc... Which is why 2009 (although far off) kinda scares the hell outta me that we'll make a wrong choice at QB (whether that be Henton or Robbie).

I know this is crazy and premature I'm sure...but a part of me can't help but wonder what Henton and our offense would look like running the spread against scUM this year. Given a full season to mature in the offense...hmmm...Not to rip on Todd or Robbie, but having a mobile QB back there like Troy was able to do just adds a whole different dimension to the offense. One more threat the D has to worry about.

I know it won't happen, but I can dream right?

I've thought about it a lot too. I think Boeckman is our guy, and I'm very comfortable with that. But I wouldn't mind seeing Henton get some Tebow-esque reps by the end of the season. I doubt that would happen either, though, since it could prematurely tip the scale in favor of Henton.

The distribution of PT yesterday speaks volumes on how the QB pecking order is. Boeckman had the significant majority of snaps, with Schoenhoft running 3-4 possessions...Henton got the snap the ball about 3 times in our last drive to run out the clock.

I hear ya bud... I am glad Todd is doing as well as he is and he's our #1 but in the pre-season is desperatly wanted Henton to blow the roof off and become our starter. The options this young man brings to our offense is far better than anything the other two can bring. He's got a great arm, he can move, and we would be able to keep our same offensive game plan as we had with troy.

Not that I can see Tressel doing this, but I was thinking it might be kinda cool to not play Henton at all, all year long, and then whip that dude out against Michigan. Those dorks enjoy watching the mobile quarterbacks light them up. They might thank us for starting Henton.
