Premier League (Official Thread)

That Blackburn result for Man United really came out of the blue. It will be interesting to see who's in goal against Newcastle next week for United (probably will still be de Gea, just so his confidence is messed).

If Sir Alex still thinks he can get by without buying in January, he may miss the fact Michael Carrick is playing in the back and his central mid sometimes has Phil Jones.

Swansea deserved the point, if not more. They took it to Spurs from the very start.

Tottenham looked uninspired in the attack. Too much standing around at time, and flat in their shape. I lost count of how many opportunities there were for a a ball to the top of the penalty area, only to see that there were no Spurs players in the space.

They really seem to miss Aaron Lennon right now, and I think it is resulting in asking too much from Kyle Walker in the attack. Any time he gets the ball on that right hand side he just puts his head down and carries it forward at 100 miles an hour with no regard for any spaces he can attack with a pass.

Oh well - despite some of the recent talk, I have no delusions of Spurs challenging United or City for the crown. I just want to see a top four finish and a spot in the Champions League, and combined with Chelsea's loss today's draw didn't hurt their chances all that much.

Wow, that changes the entire outlook for Spurs. Instead of losing ground to the leaders they actually pulled back a point. The only team near them in the table that they gave ground to was Arsenal, and they're still three points clear of them for now.

And then there's the game they have in hand that is starting to loom larger and larger. They'll be making up that match on 1/11. With Donovan added to Everton's squad and the verbal dust-up between him and Friedel recently, I'll be disappointed if that one's not shown live here in the States.

The next three matches for Spurs will tell us a lot about their aspirations for the rest of the season. Including that rescheduled match, they're all at home, with the match against Everton being sandwiched between games against WBA and Wolves. Maximum points are possible, and if they do that they might be able to apply some additional pressure to the Manchester clubs at the top of the table.

Spurs ground it out to get all the points in a 1-0 win against West Brom. It was a bit costly though - already missing Lennon & Parker, they had to sub for Sandro and Gallas because of injuries. Already thin at center back, they're starting to get a bit thin in the midfield too it seems. With their FA Cup match and two more Premiership fixtures between now and the 14th, their depth will be tested.

One positive to come from the injuries - it gave Spurs the opportunity to pair Adebayor and Defoe at the top, and drop van der Vaart back to midfield. Since it was Defoe who got the goal that may have been the difference.

City looks to be well on their way to three points against Liverpool.

Arsenal, with their loss to Fulham yesterday, have given back any benefit they saw from the craziness in the previous round of matches.

Haven't seen that one from him before. Tim Howard gets the first one for Everton against Bolton.

Manchester United getting beat 2-0 by Newcastle. The buy of the season so far, Demba Ba, got the first.
