Premier League (Official Thread)

Should be an interesting transfer window coming up for all leagues, but the EPL in particular. I have a feeling Man U will do A LOT of shopping for midfielders. Chelsea won't be quiet, guarantee that.

I would expect to see Fergie very busy dealing with the center of his midfield. It simply isn't up to the level that is needed to compete with Barca. I just don't see Fergie keeping Carrick much longer. Who knows who will be brought in and who will be sent packing. But this should be a good transfer window.

You figure David de Gea and Ashley Young thus far (as both are more/less confirmed by the club). Just for a morale standpoint and his own career, Berbatov may need to find another club (the player-for-player plus cash for Modric is intriguing).

The most refreshing take from Monday was SAF coming out and saying that in Spain they can work with kids every hour of the day and in England they're restricted to 90 minutes. I'm sure other managers share his view (that the FA and Premier League should change that rule).

Sad to see Scholes retire but nice to see he's immediately joining the coaching staff.

So you're saying Berbatov to Tottenham? God, that's scary to think about. The Krouch/Berbatov combo could be lethal.

Kind of be interesting to see if Defoe's demands to start or transfer result in anything.

If Spurs are going to sell Bale for 50 million ($75 million), I'd hope they have an immediate plan to spend that money on attackers.

I heard that deal may be on, Brebatove plus some cash for Modric. That makes perfect sense when you look at the possibility of Tottenham losing Bale, Modric and Defoe. Berbatov would help with the lack scoring Tottenham faced at certain points in the year. They would need to find help in midfield if they were to lose both Bale and Modric. Crouh and Berbs would be interesting to watch

Brad Friedel (Bay Village, Ohio) to Spurs.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6964281,00.html

Redknapp told the club's official website: "Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience.
"It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo (Cudicini) and now Brad, and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well."

Ageless and two-year contract. Good for him.

[censored]. I'll miss Brad Friedel. Enjoy him Spurs. He's an American treasure.

You have to enjoy his "Ohio-British" accent.

Kidding, he's lived there for 14-15 years. Happy he's still playing (considering Van der Sar just retired and Friedel is older than him).

Good for Friedel, and and good for Brad Guzan to get a shot at being the number one for Aston Villa. Hopefully, Guzan can get some consistent playing time, and develops into a quality replacement for Howard on the USMNT.
