Predictions for 2014 season

I'm leaning to 10-3 and maybe 9-4. The offensive dynamic changed quite a bit after you took out Miller from the equation. Plus JT needs to be able to hit a pass over 10 yards on occasion. I think the home run plays will come down quite a bit from last year, and we will need longer more sustained drives to score. Also I'm not a big fan of the back 7 at all.

I think the DL has improved over the past year with gap assignments and getting up field too aggressively something that hurt this defense last year. However, the real talent at LB just got on campus and isn't ready for prime time, and the secondary isn't where it needs to be. I think we go 3-1 non conference, and 6-2 in the big ten. I'm excited for this year because of the unknowns.

Not quite that far imo, but yea... I definitely see a 2-loss season. Even if Sparty goes down, I think this team drops a game somewhere... maybe Maryland. Maybe something inexplicable like Illinois 2007,
What Urban said about the QBs before the Spring Game sticks in my head... gives me the impression that lately it's been a lot of PR. Personally feeling very apprehensive about the LB positions.

Most of the stuff mentioned in press conferences isn't really the reality, for one it helps the kid mentioned to be motivated to continue to progress, not where the kid is. I was at practice the day after the QB change, and most of the stuff on offense they were working on was inside runs and quick throws. Basically about 35% of the offense. The fear for me is that either Navy can overcome our DL and put together drives, or VT is a little better on offense than anticipated because I think we'll struggle with their defense. I have no feel on Cincinnati. Having said that this is a team by the end of the year should be better.

Also one thing that really worries me is the lack of senior leadership on this team. Don't under estimate that.

If Navy's OL can overcome our DL, we have some pretty serious issues to worry about...

I believe he's thinking in terms of how Navy plays and how Ohio State's DL played last year -- over penetrating, over pursuing at times. That'll kill you against Navy. It's about gap assignments and discipline from the front back.

Does Curtis Grant getting a nod as captain ease some of the concern here. It does me.

It's not just Grant. My concern will be eased when I see them play a team that can pass the ball. I already know Grant can stuff the run.

They won't push us off the ball but they will cut us off the ball, plus we are not the biggest team up front. Our team speed will help for sure, but playing Navy is about discipline and assignment football. This is a good test in my mind, I expect a win mind you, but we are not playing Florida A&M.

In 2009 with Pryor at QB we almost gave up 200 yards rushing to Navy with a several NFL kids on our defense. Navy is expected to be as good as that Navy team.

I'm REALLY excited about this season because of the youth and what we will get to see in terms of growth. Seems like a lot of opportunity to improve throughout the year. Hopefully this team will look a lot different by year end.

That said, there are so many unknowns and what-ifs, it's hard to imagine that we won't have a couple or few losses. Obviously I'd rather be undefeated, but 3 losses won't bother me considering all if the unknowns.

Agreed. 3 loses wouldn't be a disappointment. 4 losses would. I expect 1-2. I hope for a national title and if we get to 12-0 it means we have developed jt and the young offense enough that I think we could to 15-0. That said I wouldn't be upset to see wisky minus Bert going 15-0 nor would I be upset to see Msu go 15-0. Both I think have come a long way and deserve it. that said I don't think either has what it takes. I have a great deal of respect for dantonio and wisky now that fat ass is gone.

We are plenty big enough up front IMO. Both tackles are 290 with a big end at 285 with Bosa. Both back up tackles are 300+ so we are ok there, plus our backers are heavier than normal with Grant, Perry and McMillan all arounf 245+. Secondary is also a bit heavier than normal too.

Stack the box, and play assignment football then it all doesn't really matter

I think we go undefeated, at least until the B1G championship game. I don't see a roster or coaching staff that makes me think we don't beat everyone on the schedule. I'm not the type to jump off the deep end should we drop a game or two, but, I think this will be a very fun year to watch the Buckeyes play.

What the hell is wrong with people? 3 losses is going to be ok? When has that ever been the preseason hopes for an Ohio State football team?
Good lord how far has the sky fallen.
I wouldn't necessarily be ok with 3 losses, but I wouldn't be upset. I know the potential issues with this team and the fact that we are very green at many key positions and young AND green at many others. 4 losses would be upsetting. I'm expecting 2 and would be thrilled with an 11-1 season. Obviously ecstatic with 12-0.

Edit: The only loss I see right now is MSU, and would need to wait until after the VA Tech game to get a feel for how the team looks for the remainder of the season. Not really sure of another game other than MSU that I wouldn't expect to win going in.
