Predictions for 2014 season

I was disappointed as anyone after the news but damnit, we are THE Ohio State University and we are going to be fine. We have THE best damn coach in the country. We have THE best damn players in the country. And we have THE best damn fans in the land. My new bold prediction: J.T. Barrett steps in and leads this team to a great season. I won't say he makes us forget about Brax, but he will surprise the nation and shut the E$PiN crowd's mouths.

Uh, what about the band???????

Right on, Maxi..............TBDBITL, hands down. Then along comes a sack of (Mark May]. Thanks, Mr. President (you know the one I mean)!

Have to agree with RB's assessment, though. This season, I predict, will be one of the greatest in tOSU history. I've been wrong before.......just going with my gut. From what I've seen, UFM and the team are pretty confident.........so who am I to argue?

GO BUCKS!!!! :oh: :urban2:

I actually think tOSU will do okay without Brax this season. The offense played very well under Kenny G. Yes, he was a Sr, but I'd venture to say that J.T.'s physical abilities are a decent ways ahead of Kenny's. Plus, I hear him described as a "distributor." Given the amount of potential playmakers in this offense...that could be a very good thing. Brax is magic with his legs, and while he has had his moments with his arm, he has also been very shaky at times. Take away the weight of NC expectations, and enjoy watching what some youngsters can do. Get those youngsters a year's experience, throw Brax back in in 2015, then start talking NC. Anyway...here's some predictions.

1. J.T. Barrett- 65%, 2700 yards, 23 Td, 10 Int // 350 yards rushing, 3 Td
2. Yards Rushing- Zeke / Rod / Brionte // 1200 / 800 / 450
3. Corey Smith will emerge as the go-to receiver
4. As the offense looks to get the ball into the hands of its playmakers, Dontre and Jalin will be breakout players in the B1G
5. Navy gives us a major scare in the opener. I'm calling it a coinflip on whether we pull this out. I'll welcome any flack, but I think that offense is a nightmare to prepare for, plus all the new parts = scary
6. tOSU loses 3 games this season.
7. The defense isn't quite vintage silver bullets, but markedly better than the past 2-3 years.
8. Ed Warriner works wonders with the OL and parlays that into a HC gig next season.

they edged us in '11.
we edged them in '12.
they beat us coming and going in '13.

giving them the nod over us is not some wild half-assed prediction like saying Bowling Green is going to catch us this year.

recent history supports it.

I'm leaning to 10-3 and maybe 9-4. The offensive dynamic changed quite a bit after you took out Miller from the equation. Plus JT needs to be able to hit a pass over 10 yards on occasion. I think the home run plays will come down quite a bit from last year, and we will need longer more sustained drives to score. Also I'm not a big fan of the back 7 at all.

I think the DL has improved over the past year with gap assignments and getting up field too aggressively something that hurt this defense last year. However, the real talent at LB just got on campus and isn't ready for prime time, and the secondary isn't where it needs to be. I think we go 3-1 non conference, and 6-2 in the big ten. I'm excited for this year because of the unknowns.

That's where I am. The way I see it, we get a look at a couple QBs that could be Braxton's replacement. Get some experience to some youngsters and gear up for a real run next year. I'm not ready to write this season off as a mulligan, but if they drop a couple of games this year, I'm okay with it given the circumstances.

I'm not sure how what you say up here matches what you say below. If JT accounts for 26 TD's and your top 2 backs go for 2K... the 3 losses almost have to be 2 in the post season, I don't see it. Well, not if it goes as statistically well as you're saying, there's a ton of ball control there which segue's to the 'Braxton Miller/Kenny Guiton conundrum. The thing we hope... and I suppose 10 picks is 3 losses, but I don't think he'll be in that position to throw 10, at least not when it matters. Braxton's achilles heel was the maddening (to put it mildly) to take big negative plays FAR TOO OFTEN. Granted, he bailed himself out a lot... but, Kenny was efficient and didn't have to bail himself out very much. Distribution will be VERY effective if you don't take silly negative plays when you don't need to.

If you get 7 and 8, I think 6 will have to coincide with 5. I can see 3 losses I guess, but, I also think one is gonna have to be bowl games... even with Barrett, if the Defense improves markedly and the OL is fine, then you still only get a couple coin toss games in the regular season.

It can jive. Say they have a shaky performance in the opener and drop one to Navy. Stats can be padded against the KSU, Rutgers, Illinois, And Indiana's of the schedule. Another close loss to, say, MSU, and that leaves one more maybe unexpected loss against a VT, Ped Aggy (who knows what they are this year), Maryland, Minny, or the juggaloes (however unlikely). This is a young team breaking in a lot of new guys and with a first year starting QB, rebuilt line, and questionable back-7. Given that, inconsistency, especially early on, could lead to some wild games both on O and D. We also have to wonder how the offense will do in the RZ taking away Brax's running threat. They can accumulate a lot of yards moving down the field, but if drives stall in the RZ, last years TDs can become this years FGs.

Who the hell knows. Hopefully JT has a terrific season and excels at delivering the ball to the weapons we have. Hopefully the OL gels quickly and the running game remains a force post-El Guapo. Hopefully Ash corrects the issues that have plagued the back-7 for a couple of years now. Just too many questions to expect anything with any certainty at this point. That, oddly enough, may make this season more exciting than one would think.

If we had the Fickell year staff..it would be a train wreck of a season. With Urban hopefully 2 to 3 losses only. Last time Grant Perry Reeves were on the field the D was being gashed,,by scum,MSU and Clemson. The D will have to show me...ASH is unproven to me.
