Why is the Board Traffic slow lately?

I've been sitting thinking about this. When I first arrived here, I was so happy to find other people that loved Ohio State sports that I didn't know what to say. I had never participated in a board before and BPers were helpful and welcoming.

I enjoy the insights that people have. I learn a lot here and just really appreciate having a place to be with other Buckeyes. I just never felt that any of you treated me with anything but respect and kindness.

Thanks for assuming we all have our own personality, Thumpers.

How about you quit reading into what I'm saying and go back to having inane conversations with yourself and one other poster of which take up 5 pages of a thread!

Did I ever say people on here didn't have their own opinion?

I wasn't singling any certain poster out so don't take it personal.

I'm not saying that the entire site is one clique but like when you guys piled on TG05.

Same with djtidebuck, what did that guy do that was ever malicious or negative?

tedginn05 acted fucking stupid and someone (not me before you acuse me like usual) drilled him for it. He got pissed, went off on a total tirade that grad had to edit/delete, and then flat out dared folks to ding him. When we did, he said to ding him more, so we did. Fuck 'im.

djtidebuck never posted a single useful reply, ever. He was the same way back on Bucknuts 3-4 years ago, and brought his "If you were a frog..." and "What is your favorite..." bullshit threads over here. It got old fast, especially when one day he had about 12 of those threads on the first page at once. And once folks started dinging him for it, he couldn't understand why.

The few folks on this board who do end up blasting folks do so for a good reason. As for me, I give out tons of positive rep...way more so than neg rep. I resort to hammering someone only when they post really stupid shit or act up...in other words, when they deserve it.

But it's a forum, isnt that what it's for? I mean if he did that on the football or recruiting board, then sure I could see why people would be upset. But it's the Open D board. We talk about dish detergent, and favorite cereal. How come Thump isnt banned?

Those of you who get upset or offended over people getting down on the team, the offense, well I am truely sorry, but you need to learn to accept other people's opinions. This isnt Naziplanet.com, this is Buckeyeplanet.com

Ass-kisser!!

How's that for respect and kindness? :wink2:

I don't think there is a mob mentality... I think it's more a question of the fact that this board has it's own personality made up by the collective posters on this site.... new and old. A lot of posters on here have known each other for years from other (nameless) sites and therefore joke around a lot. Newbies come in and just don't "get it" sometimes... most of then stick around and eventually see what this board is about. But sometimes they bitch and moan, then they start the "when will Notre Dame join the Big Ten" and then get torn apart by people on this site.. I see no problem with that.

no offense to anybody for bringing this idea up, but I'm embarassed that we have to even consider it. I don't like the idea at all.

I agree. I think if you make all sorts of rules and limitations for newbies, you’ll really be discouraging new membership. My opinion (for what it’s worth, as I am still a newbie myself) is that you let them fry themselves if they’re not going to, as LoKy says, “get it.” If they’re not going to take a little time to familiarize themselves with the community and its customs, and if they can’t be bothered to read old threads before being needlessly redundant, then let them get what’s coming to them for being lazy assholes.<O:p</O:p

A while back I mentioned creating a half-funny, half-serious "newbie primer" to osugrad21, but dropped the idea when things became busy. If it would be useful, I'll work on it. Sign me up for whatever you want, though.

Short of throwing newbies in the pool to sink or swim, I think that’s a good idea. Then you can really identify the trolls, as they clearly will have not bothered to read any of it, and they will have no grounds to bitch about not being treated fairly. Like I said before, I didn’t see any inkling of newbie hazing. Perhaps it is simply, as GD01 suggested, because I am female, but from what Steve said, it seems like you’re all perfectly respectful of those who are first respectful of your community.<O:p</O:p

Anyway, I’d be happy to help, too.

I agree with Mili, donny over did it on the stupid question threads. I just got tired of it when donny would start 5+ new threads a day, none of which had any value. If he had only started 1 stupid thread a week it would have been different. We need some useless threads, but he was clogging up the open discussion forum with them.

"I totally agree with the "mob mentality" point. If someone like Mili starts bad-mouthing a poster all of his cronies pile on and have a mass dinging party."

Accuse people of being Mili's lemmings, but no... you didn't say anything about people having their own opinions....

Nicely done Thump....

I find it ironic that you would accuse me of inanity.

AVATARS & SIGNATURES:
We've had some complaints about avatars and signatures. What we need to do is come to a consensus on what is acceptable/unacceptable. Clarity is even thinking about conditional signatures. Something that is rated "R" would only show in the Open Discussion ... "X" in the Romper Room, etc. Not sure how that would work, who would rate the sigs, etc., but it's something to consider.

I would say my bouncing cans would be rated no more severe than a PG or PG-13. No nip slips or even a hint of the areola. I mean, come on, the worst thing that would happen is that they (the jigglies) might make a small child hungry!

Hey Hawg, I stay away from the RR at work. That's a hell of an idea, though! :)
