Which one?

It takes a little while to "feel out" a newbie poster.... So what?

I tend to only ding newbs who flat out troll, so maybe I don't get what the problem is.
I rarely ding as well, but I'm going along the lines of post recognition. These days, I can post just about anything and get a response. When I joined, I could post something 5x better than I do now and wouldnt even get a response. It can get kinda frustrating for a newb.

Hell, yeah, this place is harsh on newbies! I was banned within about 37 seconds of my first post... but that was all in good fun. :tongue2:

Seriously, though, I've only been posting here about a month, and I didn't feel any ostracism as a newbie. However, I have known of BP for a long time, and I did lurk around here from time to time for a long while before I ever started posting. So, I kind of feel like I've known you all for a while, and I had a good sense of the atmosphere and tone of this place before I came in. I think the whole cliquey, veteran vs. rookie thing is a common occurance on message boards, and I think it is usually because newbies don't take the time to look around before posting questions or opinions, which, though perhaps valid, have often been answered and expressed already. Unfortunately, most people are too lazy to do a little research to see if maybe there are already answers to their questions in older threads, so they produce tedious redundancy.

So, I guess I'm saying that you guys are off the hook as far as newbie hazing goes, at least in my experience. Honestly, I haven't paid too much attention to the gang-dinging of TG05 and others, so I'm not sure what's at the root of that. I just roll my eyes at it and move on and assume that there was something I missed that made him deserving.

Oh, and to answer the real question here, work pretty much dictates my posting frequency. Some days I'm very busy, and others I do maybe fifteen minutes of real, actual work, leaving me more time to spend here.
Peach, you're a girl hun, we always welcome them with open arms:wink:

Well, when I was a noob, I made a big splash... So, people paid attention to what I was saying right away. Over time, people began to appreciate what I really had to offer the board, rather than the crap I started out with.

Didn't take too long... On the other hand I had 500 posts in about a week...

You only think you are appreciated :wink2:...but theres no reason someone should have to post 500 times to get recognized

if you want to be accepted as a poster, post something meaningful. Theres a guy who has posted a shitload of stats and breakdowns of all the games. I don't remember his name off the top of my head, but when I see his posts I know they are going to be good. I've repped him once so far and I have to spread some rep before I can do it again. He probably has like 80 posts.

Just posting isn't going to get you any respect. Posting substance will. Anybody who has been "ganged up on" by the "mob" hasn't posted anything of substance.

True, I just think there is a common mentality, and I am just as guilty as the next guy. I check out a forum and think "Hey, BKB posted" and I will tend to read your post more thuroughly than say some guy with 15 posts and will tend to respond to you first. Of course a lot of it is earned respect that we have for more senior posters (1k posts and up) but maybe we do it too much?

DaddyBigBucks, he's a good one.
tedginn05 pretty much got what he deserved. I only dinged him 2 or 3 times, but I could have much more, based on some of the crap he was posting.

You're right, I'm just playing devil's advocate here and trying to thought provoke with what I'm saying, and it's working well. I agree we mob out the bad guys, and we respect substance. Maybe you're referring to DaddyBigBucks? Anyways, I'm not bothered by it really, I put in my dues and good posts and feel respected enough. I'm just speaking of our welcoming policy.

I never felt like a newbie here mainly because I already had 2000 posts on BN before I found my way over here so most people were familiar with me already. I know when I first started out over there I felt like the thread killer. Everytime I posted in a thread it seemed to die. I agree with whoever said that it takes some time for existing members to feel out newbies. During that time newbies shouldn't say anything too confrontational or else they will probably be labeled a troll.
If newbies follow the rules and stay in the shadows for a while they will be better received. I would be in favor of requiring new members to have 100-200 posts before they are allowed to start new threads, just to make sure that they learn not to start duplicate threads. I've dinged many a newbie for duplicate threads. Perhaps there is a way to let newbies start threads, but require that a mod give it the ok before the rest of the board can see it kind of like the PCP forum was when it was broken. If a thread is good everyone gets to see it, but if it is bad the mod can move it where it needs to be and let the poster know what the problem was.

OK, Mob mentality - time to let this thread die!

I don't know how I feel about the minimum post requirement... kinda goes against Clar's say what you want to say ideal.

Self policing, that's what this place has been about, and it's what it's about now.

This "mob" is the same "mob" who ganged up on me, when I was over the top. (less DiHard)

Newbs will figure it out. And if they're too soft to deal with it, fuckem.
