I think the biggest factor in board activity is the schedule. As games are considered "Big" or "Small" traffic increases or decreases. You can almost see this correlation in the Official Game threads. Of course the earliest games on the schedule got some more views/activity because they were the only thing to worry about. First game Miami OH received much attention because it had months to generate interest. The following games only had 1 week to generate the bulk of their posts/views. It's mid week and Indiana has no where near the interest that any previous games did. That will grow up until game time, but I'd venture to guess that it will generate one of the lowest levels of interest. Depending on what happens in the B10, I'd guess Minnesota will generate more interest and it will fall off again against Illinois. Then pick up for Northwestern and explode for Michigan.
Games played:
Miami OH - 861 posts - 21, 282 views
Texas - 6,872 posts - 171,012 views
SDSU - 735 posts - 9,518 views
Iowa - 673 posts - 11,519 views
PSU - 1,112 posts - 21,071 views
MSU - 665 posts - 11,146 views
To be played:
Indiana - 58 posts - 1,226 views
Minnesota - 6 posts - 200 views
Illinois - 2 posts - 133 views
Northwestern - 6 posts - 187 views
Michigan - 49 posts - 1,095 views
Of course, 2 losses plays a factor for the bandwagon fan, but I think it has MUCH more to do with our next opponent.
This thread touches on many topics of interest for BuckeyePlanet. Most of which have been discussed on some level with Clarity, the Admins and Mods. I'll probably start some new threads to get everyone's opinions and not hi-jack this thread, but I'll cover them here briefly. We need to discuss them as a group to decide the direction we'll take. Please note that (as always with Clarity) there are many options available. Even custom coding is a possibility to make something work the way we'd like.
AVATARS & SIGNATURES:
We've had some complaints about avatars and signatures. What we need to do is come to a consensus on what is acceptable/unacceptable. Clarity is even thinking about conditional signatures. Something that is rated "R" would only show in the Open Discussion ... "X" in the Romper Room, etc. Not sure how that would work, who would rate the sigs, etc., but it's something to consider.
LANGUAGE & FILTER:
We've had some complaints about language. What we need to do is come to a consensus on what is acceptable/unacceptable. The language filter is not operating at the moment ... as far as I'm aware. Same as above. This could be forum dependent. For example, no cursing on the Recruiting/Football forums ... most things OK in Open Discussion ... all things OK in RR.
BASHING / FLAMMING / TROLLING - WARNING SYSTEM
We need to come to a consensus on our definition of Bashing, Flaming, Trolling, etc. What's flaming to you might not be the same to others. These terms are always discussed once someone gets banned. Did so-and-so actually flame? Did he bash?
NEWBIES
There has been talk about limiting a new member's ability to post. Thoughts have ranged from a period of forced 'lurking' until they are allowed to post, a numbers of posts they must make before they are granted Thread starting capabilities, a separate forum they can post in until they are allowed to post on other boards, etc.
REPUTATION
Always seems like the biggest headache on BuckeyePlanet. People abuse it, folks complain about it, others put too much stock in it. Should there be some limits in place? Maybe unwritten rules that the regulars follow? Seems like TG05 got hammered above and beyond the call, but I'm not making value judgements. Should we limit the amount of "rubies" or "emeralds" someone can receive in a day? Something else?
FAQ
We are in the process of resurrecting the old FAQ section that Clarity started way back on Bucknuts. Much of it was lost, but we do have a starting point. Many of the issues I listed above will need to be covered in the new FAQ. I was hoping to cover them at one time, but I'm thinking many of these issues need to be discussed individually by the board to set the direction we will head. Of course, much help will be needed writing the different pieces of the FAQ. Any volunteers?
