Why is the Board Traffic slow lately?

There was only one avatar I thought went over the line, or even approached it. It was the "Couch Nigga" one... I think that was handled fine.. and, the guy was a Noob too.... I don't think anyone ganged up on him, or dinged him in to oblivion....
I don't see any avatars that go over the line, so to say. Some just go over the line for letting the 4 yr old see on the computer screen. B-max gets questions like "whose that girl?", JaxBucks gets "what's that picture of" and Mr Incredible's new one will probably scar the poor child for life.

Note: I'm not suggesting anyone change their avatar or signature, or really complaining about them. Just commenting on them. It doesn't offend me or make me angry, I'll just turn them off.

Mr. I's new avatar might be a little over the line. I also don't have a problem with anything so far, but I understand why people would want the nudity kept in the RR.

The traffic is down because everyone's watching me argue with Vince over on the poli board.

Seriously, I chose the 2 losses. That and the fact that recruiting buzz hasn't really started up yet. When I first joined this forum it was only for the recruiting news. I swear I spent half of the month of January following the saga of Jason Gwaltney.

Actually, I think it's rather the opposite of the bandwagon emptying - people are usually more "vocal" after a loss, or at least after a game in which the team does not perform well. After the Michigan State game, what can the critics say? The offense played well and scored on several long passes; the play calling was creative and got Ted Ginn involved in the game plan; the defense played well and tallied a record number of sacks; the special teams blocked two kicks and scored a TD; and the Bucks beat a ranked team which had one of the most prolific offenses in the nation. Not much to bitch about, hence less bitching....

Besides, we've been banning a lot of trolls lately, so that's got to help keep down the chatter a bit.

This board has ebbed and flowed since I've been here and I've been here a while. Every so often there is a mea culpa thread like this and it settles down. Self policing works in other words. People have been claiming "mob mentality" since the beginning. I don't necessarily see it. I am not a part of a mob. If others have taken the initiative to smack somebody around, I usually stay out of it. TG05 was a different situation though. He got warned and dinged and continued to do exactly what got him warned and dinged in the first place. Then he out right asked to get dinged to make some kind of point. He got what he wanted and deserved. When it comes to newbs, I don't know about others, but I always look at how long someone's been a member or how many posts they have. I am not going to put as much credence in a newb's post. They may be gone tomorrow for all I know. This is just the way it is IMO.

Maybe the "AL GORE invented thread" has lost its flavor.....?
Yeah. I had thought about an 'Al Gore invented (redux)' thread, where you post the thread title of a thread that appears directly below the Al Gore thread.

Am I the only one that gets a chuckle skimming down the list of topic names in the morning and reading such gems as?

Al Gore invented Bucknuts new front page
Al Gore invented Favorite 80's video game
Al Gore invented A present for you cornhole fans
Al Gore invented MP3 Breast Implant
Al Gore invented Sweet retribution on Nick Lachey (Merge)

I think the biggest factor in board activity is the schedule. As games are considered "Big" or "Small" traffic increases or decreases. You can almost see this correlation in the Official Game threads. Of course the earliest games on the schedule got some more views/activity because they were the only thing to worry about. First game Miami OH received much attention because it had months to generate interest. The following games only had 1 week to generate the bulk of their posts/views. It's mid week and Indiana has no where near the interest that any previous games did. That will grow up until game time, but I'd venture to guess that it will generate one of the lowest levels of interest. Depending on what happens in the B10, I'd guess Minnesota will generate more interest and it will fall off again against Illinois. Then pick up for Northwestern and explode for Michigan.

Games played:
Miami OH - 861 posts - 21, 282 views
Texas - 6,872 posts - 171,012 views
SDSU - 735 posts - 9,518 views
Iowa - 673 posts - 11,519 views
PSU - 1,112 posts - 21,071 views
MSU - 665 posts - 11,146 views

To be played:
Indiana - 58 posts - 1,226 views
Minnesota - 6 posts - 200 views
Illinois - 2 posts - 133 views
Northwestern - 6 posts - 187 views
Michigan - 49 posts - 1,095 views

Of course, 2 losses plays a factor for the bandwagon fan, but I think it has MUCH more to do with our next opponent.

This thread touches on many topics of interest for BuckeyePlanet. Most of which have been discussed on some level with Clarity, the Admins and Mods. I'll probably start some new threads to get everyone's opinions and not hi-jack this thread, but I'll cover them here briefly. We need to discuss them as a group to decide the direction we'll take. Please note that (as always with Clarity) there are many options available. Even custom coding is a possibility to make something work the way we'd like.

AVATARS & SIGNATURES:
We've had some complaints about avatars and signatures. What we need to do is come to a consensus on what is acceptable/unacceptable. Clarity is even thinking about conditional signatures. Something that is rated "R" would only show in the Open Discussion ... "X" in the Romper Room, etc. Not sure how that would work, who would rate the sigs, etc., but it's something to consider.

LANGUAGE & FILTER:
We've had some complaints about language. What we need to do is come to a consensus on what is acceptable/unacceptable. The language filter is not operating at the moment ... as far as I'm aware. Same as above. This could be forum dependent. For example, no cursing on the Recruiting/Football forums ... most things OK in Open Discussion ... all things OK in RR.

BASHING / FLAMMING / TROLLING - WARNING SYSTEM
We need to come to a consensus on our definition of Bashing, Flaming, Trolling, etc. What's flaming to you might not be the same to others. These terms are always discussed once someone gets banned. Did so-and-so actually flame? Did he bash?

NEWBIES
There has been talk about limiting a new member's ability to post. Thoughts have ranged from a period of forced 'lurking' until they are allowed to post, a numbers of posts they must make before they are granted Thread starting capabilities, a separate forum they can post in until they are allowed to post on other boards, etc.

REPUTATION
Always seems like the biggest headache on BuckeyePlanet. People abuse it, folks complain about it, others put too much stock in it. Should there be some limits in place? Maybe unwritten rules that the regulars follow? Seems like TG05 got hammered above and beyond the call, but I'm not making value judgements. Should we limit the amount of "rubies" or "emeralds" someone can receive in a day? Something else?

FAQ
We are in the process of resurrecting the old FAQ section that Clarity started way back on Bucknuts. Much of it was lost, but we do have a starting point. Many of the issues I listed above will need to be covered in the new FAQ. I was hoping to cover them at one time, but I'm thinking many of these issues need to be discussed individually by the board to set the direction we will head. Of course, much help will be needed writing the different pieces of the FAQ. Any volunteers?

I don't think there is a mob mentality... I think it's more a question of the fact that this board has it's own personality made up by the collective posters on this site.... new and old. A lot of posters on here have known each other for years from other (nameless) sites and therefore joke around a lot. Newbies come in and just don't "get it" sometimes... most of then stick around and eventually see what this board is about. But sometimes they bitch and moan, then they start the "when will Notre Dame join the Big Ten" and then get torn apart by people on this site.. I see no problem with that.

no offense to anybody for bringing this idea up, but I'm embarassed that we have to even consider it. I don't like the idea at all.
