Why is the Board Traffic slow lately?

By responding to them you kept them on the first page of the forum.

If he bothered you guys so bad, why didn't you put him on your ignore list? (And exhawg I know you did this so this isn't directed at you.)

Here's what it says for this forum:

"Any topic (within reason) is appropriate here as long as they can be discussed with at least a degree of tact, civility, and respect for differing opinions."

What about donny's threads don't fall within this category?

Just b/c you don't like him doesn't mean you have to piss on everyone else's parade.

djturdbutt was indeed posting that crap on the football board, and then when we finally got him to post them in the open forum, he just went ape-shit with thread after thread. We have still those kinds of threads now, but they're far less numerous and are started by a variety of people. Right now, there are only six threads even resembling a dj-type thread on the first page of the Open Discussion forum:

  • What kind of lunchbox did you have growing up? (Thump)
  • What are your favorite commercials!!!!! (Ginn & Juice)
  • What kind of car do you drive? (Sober)
  • What song are you listening to right now (BrutusMaximus)
  • Least favorite radio shows.... (The Man)
  • How much you pay for a haircut? (Thump)

All were started by different members, except for two of them being started by Thump. Far cry from having double the amount of those types of threads being started by the same person (and those threads being the only threads started by him).

I joined bp in july of this year. I lurked for nearly a month before my first post. That month was well spent. I took the time to read alot of old threads, in part to answer any questions i may have had about why this site was here/a history of bp, and partly to familiarize myself with the posting style of the members. this is the first message board community i have been a part of. I couldnt imagine being anywhere else.

I have never been ganged up on, nor treated unfairly. i had a couple of people shoot my opinion to shit. I must say, i deserved it.

I am getting busy at work too, which, combined with personal issues, is probably why some of the vets aren't posting as much. As for newer posters or new members, I can't imagine the bandwagon effect wouldn't have something to do with it. Mob mentality? Not so much to me...it may drive a few people away, but I don't think it can account for the across-the-board post dropoff we seem to have.

I notice it in the previews...less views, less comments. Seems like a bit of a bandwagon effect to me.

And, as I recall, your first post was about Henton and the fact that you've seen him play and so on.

Very reasonable. Much better than coming in with "Troy Smith sucks, I'd start Zwick" Without elaboration.

Agreed, that's why nothing was ever done on this front (limiting Newbie participation). I do belive that it was brought up during last Recruiting Season when the influx of Newbs was an overload. I just bring it up because the members seems to be talking about it on this thread.

My point is that all these things (Sigs, avatars, launguage, etc.) should be open for discussion. I guess I could just write up the whole FAQ section myself and everyone would be constrained by my views. While you or I might not see any harm in something, others might. I hope that we can (as a group) place acceptable limits on our actions. What those limits are will be defined by the membership in general. As with all things BuckeyePlanet, the site is an ever-changing, usually growing, state of flux. Why? Because this site (much more than most others) IS the membership. As the membership changes, grows, evolves, regresses ... so does our goals.

Donny never broke any rules, he just pissed me off because he was annoying. He was annoying on purpose. Then he would play the "poor me" routine like he didn't know he did anything wrong. He has a right to post whatever dipshit thread he wants, and I had the right to call him a dipshit for it. And he couldn't take it when EVERYBODY called him a dipshit for it.

Donny is an act just like tibor is. It's a way to get attention. I got sick of it. I have a right to get sick of it.

Yes and no. There will be a FAQ section written with general guidelines. This is for everyone's information and some sections will be used by the mods/admins to help define when some actions should be taken.

Self-policing has always been a goal of BuckeyePlanet. Sometimes it works, other times not. It becomes more difficult with more members. As the user base grows, so does the variety of opinions on what is acceptable and what is not. A FAQ section will help to reduce the confusion on what we (as a community) feel is acceptable and what isn't. This was easy with 500 members. Everyone knew everybody else. We knew when someone was joking around or pissed. We knew what we expected of each other. That is not so clear anymore.

Yes ... I know you're kidding :)
