Michigan WR Arrington cleared of domestic violence chargePosted 12/1/2006 12:04 PM ET

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) ? Michigan wide receiver Adrian Arrington has been cleared of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

The charge stemmed from an Oct. 13 incident in which his girlfriend, Jodie Hupe, told police that Arrington snatched the keys to her sport-utility
vehicle and drove away.

Arrington, a 20-year-old junior, was scheduled to go on trial Monday in Ypsilanti. But prosecutors dismissed the charge Thursday at what was scheduled to be a pretrial conference.

The charge was dismissed because Judge Kirk Tabbey insists that civilian complainants appear at such hearings to make sure they will show up at the trial, Washtenaw County assistant prosecutor Steve Hiller said Friday. He said Hupe did not appear despite receiving notice of the hearing.

"In domestic violence cases, this is not an unusual thing to have happen," he said.

Arrington could have faced up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

According to a police report, Hupe said she picked up Arrington from a bar after she finished work and they got into an argument. Arrington grabbed Hupe's keys and pushed her out of the vehicle and drove off, the report said.

However, the report said she did not want to press charges and only was concerned about Arrington driving because he had been drinking.

Felony at Wisconsin...

From my understanding, it was a colossal misunderstanding. Jack Ikegwuonu's brother is his identical twin, and what happened is his brother illegally entered someone's house who was borrowing his OWN XBox, and he took it back. So nothing was stolen even. I'm not saying what Bill did was 100 percent copasetic, but I can see where he's coming from. I was 99 percent sure this was bogus when it came out. I've seen Jack in about 20 interviews, and he'd need to have multiple personalities/schizophrenia to be capable of jeopardizing his future like that. He's a great kid. And I'm sure if a football player of his status wanted an XBox, he could get one new for free, he wouldn't have to steal a used one.

On the other hand, otherwise 'normal' players have been alleged to take a dump in women's shoes in a dorm room closet on campus. Not that I'm saying Jack (or Bill) stole anything, but any time is a good time to bring Najeh Davenpoop back up. Still sort of surprised he was released by the Packers, GM's wife better check her shoes.

Oh wait, is this a Badger we're talking about? Guilty. Badgers are in the Mustelidae family. You know what other species is as well? Weasels. You know, Wolverines...

Throw the book at [strike]Igeka[/strike], [strike]Ikakwe[/strike], [strike]Ikagoo[/strike], Ikalpahabet and make an example of him. There's no such thing as a good Mustelidae -- well, okay, otters are cool as hell -- but the rest are the evil, Waterboy's momma said so...

Kansas safety charged with felony

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas safety Jerome Kemp turned himself into police on suspicion of breaking into a car and stealing more than $1,000 in property.

Kemp, a senior from Wichita, was charged with felony motor vehicle burglary and two misdemeanors, theft less than $1,000 and criminal damage to property, the Douglas County District Attorney's office said Wednesday.

He had turned himself into police Monday evening and posted $2,250 bond Tuesday, jail officials said.

A 22-year-old woman told police Kemp smashed the driver's window of her Volkswagen Jetta and took CDs and other items.

Kansas Athletics spokesman Jim Marchiony said the incident won't affect Kemp athletically because he has used up his eligibility.

"There's no games, no practice anymore," Marchiony said. "His career is over."

Vanderbilt's Keown accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend, teammate

NASHVILLE (AP) ? Police arrested a Vanderbilt punter after they said he hit his ex-girlfriend and a teammate, then threatened his roommate with a knife in the off-campus apartment they shared.

Kyle Keown is charged with domestic assault and aggravated assault after being arrested for the incident on Dec. 1 and charged with domestic assault and aggravated assault, The Tennessean reported Thursday on its website.

A spokesman for Vanderbilt football referred questions to school administrators. A phone message left with the dean of students office after business hours Thursday was not immediately returned.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron was not immediately available Thursday evening.

Citing affidavits from the Metro Nashville Police Department, the newspaper reported Keown was hitting Sarah Treichel when his roommate, backup quarterback Richard Kovalcheck, intervened. Keown reportedly hit Kovalcheck who struck back in self-defense.

Then the 6-foot, 195-pound Keown, "then grabbed the victim by the groin, and began squeezing and pulling very intensely," according to the sworn affidavits. Keown released Kovalcheck, and each went to separate bedrooms.

Then Keown came into Kovalcheck's bedroom through a balcony "holding a large knife above his head. The victim stated that the defendant told him that he was going to kill him." Kovalcheck and Treichel fled and called police.

Treichel, a senior on the Vanderbilt women's swimming team, did not want to press charges.

Keown joined Vanderbilt in 2003 as a punter and redshirted. He played in two games in 2004 and four in 2005, his last in the Commodores' 28-24 victory at Tennessee when he averaged 38.8 yards on four punts. He did not play this season.

Kovalcheck transferred to Vanderbilt this year from Arizona, and he was 10-of-14 for 63 yards passing.

Not football, but certainly Blotter worthy.
Irish Basketball player presently off team from Weed charges. Now entering diversion program.
Also, this is deeply ironic in view of the Irish fanbase oft stated assertion that nothing negative and newsworthy ever happens in South Bend, well shy of a butt whipping by TSUN.

The last part of the article also contradicts their oft stated myth that any infraction (money, drugs, academics) would be deemed so egregious that automatic dismissal from the school would result.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think it is fine that the Domer administration is forgiving of acts of this nature. They are after all a Catholic School, redemption and forgiveness should be their day to day business.

But the contrast between mythology and reality is rarely defined so starkly.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame point guard Kyle McAlarney, suspended indefinitely after his arrest last month on a marijuana possession charge, has entered into a pretrial diversion program.
The agreement would allow McAlarney to have the charge against him dismissed in a year, if he passes random drug tests and stays out of trouble.
......... McAlarney, who began spring semester classes on Tuesday, still could face sanctions from the school.
Coach Mike Brey said McAlarney has continued to practice with the Irish and wants to stay at Notre Dame.
"He wants to be here. He wants to come back and make up for an error in judgment," Brey said.

Another basketball entry. Maybe we need a "Police/Legal Blotter" in the basketball section thread.

BC dismisses center Williams, forward McLain
Boston College's NCAA Tournament and ACC title chances were dealt a serious blow when junior center Sean Williams and junior forward Akida McLain were dismissed from the team Wednesday night.

Sean Williams had become a solid inside presence for the Eagles.

Multiple sources confirmed that the pair of Eagles, who have each been suspended twice before during their careers for a violation of team rules, were told earlier Wednesday. The team was being informed Wednesday night. The school released word of the dismissals just before 7 p.m. (ET) without a comment from BC head coach Al Skinner or athletic director Gene DeFilippo. Boston College said it would not release further information on the matter. Williams was suspended once for marijuana possession, while McLain had been suspended for his involvement in a counterfeiting scam.

Former Navy player Morrison faces court-martial

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Rape and drug charges have been dropped against a former Navy football player accused of assaulting two female midshipmen, but the Naval Academy said Thursday it will court-martial him on lesser counts.

Kenny Ray Morrison was accused of using a "date rape drug" to assault the women in separate incidents, but testimony from expert witnesses during pretrial hearings cast doubt on whether the women had been drugged.

Kyle has been dismissed from ND. IMO. he should have been suspended 10 games or so, dismissal is way to rough.
Ths really hurts the baskeball team...
