Police/Legal Blotter (stop breaking the law, asshole!)

Kyle has been dismissed from ND. IMO. he should have been suspended 10 games or so, dismissal is way to rough.
Ths really hurts the baskeball team...

This is very unfortunate for this kid. With marijuana use so prevalent among his peers, it is understandable that many BP'ers will see this as an unreasonable punishment, Chief. It is interesting that the coach does not appear to have made this decision. University administration seems to have pulled the plug.

Personally, I think it could be a good thing for Notre Dame sports. Kids need lines in the sand and this sets one helluva example. If Notre Dame says the line in the sand is any arrest-worthy offense, then they need to enforce that. If they enforce it, players will take it seriously.

Nevertheless, it is very unfortunate for the kid and his team.

The jesting about how some in the ND fanbase portray institutional discipline aside, I was dead serious in suggesting that forgiveness and redemption should be ND's approach - as a Christian institution.

This really hurts the basketball team? Sure, it also does great damage to this young man's academic and athletic career. Certainly he brought this on himself, but outright dismissal seems like stark, zero-tolerance punishment.

Is there a likelihood that something else arose, that this was just the first revealed transgression?

Gonzaga players arrested on drug charge

CHENEY, Wash. - Gonzaga basketball players Josh Heytvelt and Theo Davis were arrested after police found marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms in their car during a traffic stop.

Well, what do you expect from kids who go to a college called "Gonzaga"? I mean, come on...might as well call it "Gone Zig Zag".

How about an incoming freshman and public drunkenness BB? Hope that counts.

Stephen Garcia an incoming freshman in the Gamecock's latest recruiting haul is caught for public drunkenness.

(Columbia) February 17, 2007 - A USC quarterback is in trouble. Brand new recruit Stephen Garcia was arrested early Saturday outside of club Knock Knock in Five Points in Columbia.
Police say they were responding to an altercation at about 12:40am when Garcia refused to stop running from an officer. Police say he was drunk. Garcia is 18-years-old.
......
The report says, at the time, Garcia was trying to "zip up his pants and fix his belt." Also, according to the report, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol and that Garcia was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech.
Garcia, a top 50 player on some recruiting services boards, was released on a personal recognizance bond.

You really have to applaud those top-flight players that want to get an early start on their Police/Legal Blotter rap sheets.

Perhaps it is because the University name starts with "C"

Remember University of Colorado and the sex scandal?

Seems something like that may be brewing at UC.

UC probes sex-tape claim
BY BILL KOCH | [email protected]
The University of Cincinnati is investigating allegations that four current football players and four recruits engaged in sex acts with a former UC soccer player during a recruiting visit.
The allegations were brought to the attention of UC president Nancy Zimpher, Daniel Cummins, director of judicial affairs; and Barbara Rinto, director of the UC Women?s Center in a letter that was dated Feb. 14 and signed, ?A Concerned Athletic Department Employee.?
UC spokesman Greg Hand acknowledged today that the university is ?conducting an investigation.?
?Daniel did get the letter and all I can say is that we?re looking into it at this point,? Hand said.
According to the letter, the sex acts took place during a party at which alcohol was served, that the sex acts were videotaped and that the tapes have been circulated around UC dormitories.

....
At this point, there are no allegations of criminal conduct.

?We just don?t know what we have,? Hand said. ?The facts are that there are anonymous allegations and we?re trying to find answers.?
