Police/Legal Blotter (stop breaking the law, asshole!)

Spurrier has changed his tune. When the news of the car-keying incident forst broke, he wanted to believe Garcia's story that he didn't do it.

Garcia suspended for spring practice
Star South Carolina recruit punished after two arrests

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia, arrested twice in recent weeks, will not participate in spring practice, which begins March 20, coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday.

Garcia was arrested Saturday and accused of damaging a professor's car with a key. Last month, the 19-year-old was arrested and charged with drunkenness and failing to stop for a police officer.

A kid from CENTERVILLE was picked up on a car jacking count. First I have to laugh. Why does a kid from Centerville, a rather well to do suburb in Dayton, need to car jack? turns out he's being recruited by several teams.

The cops may have had it in for him, the victim said his car was jacked by someone 5'5. The C'ville kid is 5' 11...maybe bent over to poke his gun in the window he looked shorter...

But what program is going to say no? What coach doesn't believe he can't turn around a kid with three priors but drops running backs like a round from a .45?

Who's going to say 'no' to a kid with a regular spot on the police blotter if he can rain threes like April in Ohio?

Answer: no one.

Washington RB Houston Transfers Again

And yes, this is a Police Legal Blotter item. It stems from Houston's arrest after his transfer last summer from Texas to Washington for taking a motor vehicle without permission -- a Class C felony -- and driving while intoxicated, a gross misdemeanor.

Now Ty Willingham says bye-bye Houston.

RB Houston leaves Washington football program
March 8, 2007
SEATTLE (AP) -- Michael Houston, who transferred to the University of Washington last summer and then was suspended in October after being arrested, has left the Huskies football program.
"Michael was unable to fulfill his responsibilities with our football program," coach Tyrone Willingham said in a statement. "At this time both parties feel this is the best solution for him."

Houston came to Washington in August after playing as a freshman at Texas. He played in two games for the Longhorns then transferred following the season.

A university spokesman said Houston is still enrolled in school and expects to have a future playing college football, but has not determined when or where he will transfer.

2 games as a Freshman (Texas), sat out last year by rule in Washington, will transfer (who knows where) and Houston sees a future in football? Sounds like one of the lower divisions right now.

Facebook Promting White Power started by USC Football player

Oh no he didn't!

Oh yes he did!

Started a Facebook page promoting White Power, purportedly as a joke. Though, it has landed the offending player, legacy Clay Matthews (3 guesses as to who papa is) in some pretty hot water.

An inside joke on the USC football team went awry when a Facebook group sparked outrage among students.

The racist Facebook group was created by a USC football player and showed a graphic of a black baby in handcuffs. An athletic department source said the group was a joke and had no serious purpose.

Junior linebacker Clay Matthews created the group, "White Nation," which featured a graphic with the caption, "arrest black babies before they become criminals."

Matthews, it should be noted has, under pressure left the "group" but his legacy lives on.

When Matthews left the "White Nation" Facebook group, he gave up his ability to delete the group; an administrator must manually remove each member to delete the group.

Deadspin's take on this ....

"This group is not for the faint of heart," read the group's description. "All members are athletes of Caucasion (sic) descent. DISCLAIMER: In no way are the following memebers (sic) intolerant of others, we are just doing our duty of protecting the Arian (sic) brotherhood." You know, if they're gonna protect their heritage, the least they could do is spell it correctly. This should do wonders for USC's recruiting, by the way.

at best, matthews and his group are complete idiots. at worst, they are racists and complete idiots. the comments from the daily trojan almost universally claim that it's simply the politically correct media uncovering a harmless inside joke. the hits keep on coming with usc.

Would that it were so, but MoC was JT's boy. And that's just one example. It's a tough business, especially in Columbus and a coach who fails to give a thug a second, third, fourth chance runs a high risk. I think Tressel cares about character, but I'm not blind to the reality of what it takes to be in the hunt for an NC.

What were MoC's prior offenses when he verballed here? Ignoring a criminal history is different than accepting a kid who needs an attitude adjustment.

Arkansas DE arrested for shoplifting

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Antwain Robinson, a starter at defensive end in 13 Arkansas football games last season, was arrested Sunday on a shoplifting charge, according to authorities in Washington County.

Robinson, 20, was detained Sunday afternoon by security personnel at a Dillard's store in the Northwest Arkansas Mall at Fayetteville, according to Sgt. Dominic Swanfeld of the Fayetteville Police Department. Swanfeld said Dillard's notified the police department, and officers went to the store and took Robinson into custody, "based on their [security guards'] sworn statement," Swanfeld said.
