OU's Stacy McGee cited for marijuana possession

OU defensive tackle Stacy McGee was cited and released for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Sunday, according to Norman police spokeswoman Jennifer Newell.

McGee was pulled over by police on East Lindsey Street a little after 5 p.m. A police officer spotted one joint of marijuana and a marijuana grinder. Because he was a Norman citizen, McGee was allowed to do a sign and release.

McGee, a native of Muskogee, started 10 of 13 games last season at defensive tackle, and finished the year with 26 tackles. He will be a junior this season.

An update on the DUI for Utah's Nai Fotu. He was parked on the shoulder of the expressway facing the wrong way - the link has a video of his arrest.

CBS

Posted by Tom Fornelli

Yesterday we wrote about Utah linebacker Timote Nai Fotu who was arrested for a DUI over the weekend, and has since been suspended from the team by Kyle Whittingham "until further notice." We can't be sure how long that will be, exactly, but given the new details emerging about Nai Fotu's arrest, I have a feeling it is going to be a while.

You see, Fotu wasn't pulled over because he was swerving back and forth between lanes while driving or anything. In fact, he may have been driving in a perfectly straight line. The problem for Fotu was that he was driving in the wrong lane. On the freeway. Yep.

Though, as intoxicated as that is, at least he was able to remember he was in Utah.

Making matters worse, Fotu already had a warrant out for his arrest stemming from an incident in 2009. Fotu failed to appear in court to face charges of giving false personal information to police, unlawful possession of alcohol or a controlled substance by a minor and public urination for an incident on March 20, 2009.

To be fair to him, he does play for a team whose fanbase will rip your ball sack open if you displease them...

Weed is a way to cope. Plus, when you finish firing your rifle in the desert for the three hundreth time, it leaves armed robbery, domestic violence and smoking weed as the only available remaining Oklahoma past-times.

After having the highest number (among 2010 preseason top-25) of players that had been arrested, according to today's SI/CBS story, this from former Pitt OL Fernando Diaz, who left the team last August.

He had hoped to rejoin the team this spring, but after being tased 4 times, he probably won't be welcomed back.

Former Pitt football player in confrontation with police

A former redshirted freshman on the University of Pittsburgh football team on Saturday was arrested when police said he was highly intoxicated in Oakland, blocked them from driving down Atwood Sreet, and resisted arrest and fought with them so much that he had to be Tasered four times.

The suspect, Fernando M. Diaz, 20, of Bronx, N.Y., was taken into custody after a cruiser on routine patrol at 1:56 a.m. had to stop on Atwood because Mr. Diaz was standing in the middle of street yelling at someone in an adjacent parking lot. He refused to move, police said. When he saw the police car, officers said, he responded "What the [expletive] are you going to do, hit me?"
...
Police said Mr. Diaz refused to calm down, twice tried to walk away, and once the citation was written told police he wouldn't sign it, wouldn't accept it and wouldn't go to court. He began to walk away again and ignored orders to stop. Officers attempted to grab his arms but he pulled way in an aggressive manner and officers were only able to get one handcuff on him, police reported. He then began swinging his arms, one with the handcuffs attached, with closed fists at officers, police said. They contained him only after shooting him four times with a Taser.

Mr. Diaz was released from custody after a doctor made sure he had not been medically affected by the Tasers. He was released and will be charged by summons with public drunkenness, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and obstruction a highway.

Pitt had listed Mr. Diaz as being 6 feet 2, 280 pounds. He was an offensive lineman.

Mr. Diaz was with the team for training camp but left school in August 2010. He had hopes of participating in spring practice, but Pitt sports information director E.J. Borghetti said today that, "in light of recent events," he will not be rejoining the team.

If a guy can fight through 3 tazes, I want him on my team.

All this idiot had to do was move away from the middle of the street so the cop car could drive by. If he's not smart enough to do that, he probably can't remember the snap count either. You can have him for your team........

Report: 7 Trojans have criminal record
USC has seven football players with criminal records, according to an investigation by CBS News and Sports Illustrated.
The report included criminal background checks on players listed on the rosters of every team in the preseason top 25 before last season. It found that 7 percent of the 2,837 players had criminal records and nearly 40 percent of the incidents were "serious" offenses.
Ten schools had more players with criminal backgrounds than USC. "Our coaches use a variety of methods to look into a recruit's background, including those mentioned in the story," USC athletic director Pat Haden said in a statement.
"On a case-by-case basis, if we feel it necessary, we'll do a formalized background check.
"The story does raise some good issues. We need to discuss internally if doing formal background checks becomes something that is factored in for the future here. It is certainly worth exploring."
