Arkansas WR Ray arrested on marijuana charge

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas wide receiver Lance Ray has been arrested and charged with marijuana possession.

The 19-year-old Ray was arrested late Saturday night by university police after the smell of marijuana was detected coming from his dorm room.

According to a preliminary police report, Ray had a brown rolled cigarette containing a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana.

The misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail.

Ray also was charged with minor in possession of alcohol and was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was released from early Sunday morning.

The redshirt freshman played in nine games last season for Arkansas, finishing with one catch for 6 yards. His primary contribution came on special teams, where he had 23 kickoff returns for a 22.5-yard average.

Looks like we have a roster spot available to oversign some more!

Everybody wins!

more importantly....will Petrino suspend him for more than 5 games since what he did was actually against the law.

Petrino has a chance to step up to the plate and show what his character is all about. He doesn't need to listen to the SEC comissioner or NCAA. He knows that Marijuana is illegal and has no part in college athletics. I look forward to Bobby showing what he is all about when dealing with this issue.

Arizona St. safety Abreu suspended after arrest

After a rocky, bowlless 6-6 season, this can't be how Dennis Erickson wanted Arizona State's offseason to begin :

Redshirt freshman safety Ramon Abreu has been suspended indefinitely from the football program at Arizona State following his arrest for felony sexual conduct with a minor, ASUDevils.com has learned.

The alleged incident(s) took place while Abreu was an 18-year-old high school senior at Marcos de Niza in Tempe and involved a 14-year-old freshman at the school.

Per the linked report, Arizona State had not been made aware of the arrest when Abreu signed with the Sun Devils last January (a situation that, if true, could make recruiting relations strained between the program and Abreu's high school). There is no word on when Abreu's suspension might be lifted, if it will be at all.

But where Abreu is concerned, given that his charges constitute a Class 2 felony "punishable by up to five years in prison," he's got much, much bigger problems than football right now. And as for the Sun Devils, it's just one more headache for a program that doesn't need any more than they've already got.

LOS ANGELES -- Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested late Tuesday night and held on a felony narcotics charge, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Bruce Borihanh confirmed Wednesday.

Bail was set at $30,000. Mustain has not paid bail and is still in jail, Borihanh said.

The arrest occurred shortly after 8 p.m. PT Tuesday by the West Valley division of the LAPD, and Mustain was later booked at the Van Nuys jail at 10:44 p.m.

Mustain, 22, was preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and had been on campus at USC to work out in the school's athletic facilities late last week. He started only one game in four seasons at USC, a 20-16 home loss to Notre Dame in November, after transferring from Arkansas in 2007.

The Arkansas native was one of the most highly sought after high school players in history.

Kansas WR Chris Omigie busted for DUI

It had been a few days since we had our last college football player break the law, an offseason tradition, but Kansas wide receiver Chris Omigie has restored order to the world. Omigie was picked up for a DUI early on Saturday morning. He was stopped by a Kansas public safety answer, and the 19-year old receiver posted $500 bond later in the day and given a February 16 court date.

The school knows of the arrest, but if there is going to be any punishment for Omigie's arrest, the school hasn't said what it will be yet.

?He is still a member of our team. Coach (Turner) Gill will handle the discipline internally,? associate AD Jim Marchiony told the Lawrence Journal-World.

Omigie played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman for the Jayhawks in 2010, catching 7 passes for 73 yards.
