Virginia trio arrested on several assault charges

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Ausar Walcott, sophomore cornerback Devin Wallace and sophomore center Mike Price each face three misdemeanor charges of assault and battery by mob and one felony charge of burglary-entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an assault. The charges stem from an incident that occured Jan. 30. The three players were arrested Tuesday.

The incident involving the three players took place at 1:34 a.m., according to a statement released Wednesday afternoon by the Harrisonburg Police Department. A verbal altercation outside an off-campus apartment complex in the 800 block of Port Republic Road preceded the players entering an apartment and allegedly assaulting three male victims. The three victims claimed they did not know the Virginia football players, the statement said.

Two of the three victims were taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The statement said those two victims have since been released from the hospital.

Tennessee suspends safety Brewer after arrest

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee safety Brent Brewer has been suspended pending an investigation after police arrested the sophomore on a domestic assault charge.

Brewer was free on $1,500 bond Sunday, according to Knox County Sheriff records.

"Without knowing all of the facts, any domestic incident warrants a suspension from all team-related activities until a thorough investigation is concluded," coach Derek Dooley said in a statement. "We respect everyone's right to the legal process but also acknowledge a greater standard of conduct associated with the privilege of being a member of the Tennessee football team."

Brewer played in every game as a freshman for the Volunteers in 2010, starting the last six, and made 30 tackles. The 22-year-old from Tyrone, Ga., played the previous four years in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Washington State RB cited for pot possession

Washington State made their way into the race for the coveted Fulmer Cup over the weekend. James Montgomery, the Cougars' leading rusher in 2010, was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession in Pullman, according to the Spokane Spokesman-Review.

Montgomery was the featured back in one of the less impressive rushing attacks in the Pac-10, totaling up 483 yards and 5 touchdowns in 11 games of action. The fifth-year senior is currently petitioning the NCAA for medical hardship waiver that would grant Montgomery a sixth year of eligibility. He suffered a brutal leg-injury in 2009 that made him miss most of the season, and almost ended his football career.

Auburn University today confirmed that an herbicide commonly used to kill trees was deliberately applied in lethal amounts to the soil around the Toomer's Corner live oaks on campus, and there is little chance to save the trees. More information and ongoing updates as to treatment and prognosis are available on this site.
The City of Auburn Police Division is investigating the situation, and the application of this herbicide, known as Spike 80DF, or tebuthiuron, is also governed by state agricultural laws and the Environmental Protection Agency. The university does not use Spike herbicide. There is no reason to suspect any human danger from the herbicide, which manufacturer Dow Chemical says should be applied with proper clothing protection; a typical use of the herbicide is to kill trees along fence lines.
The university learned that a caller to The Paul Finebaum Show, a nationally syndicated radio show based in Birmingham, on Jan. 27, claimed he had applied the herbicide. As a precaution, soil samples were taken the next day and sent to the Alabama State Pesticide Residue Laboratory on campus for analysis. Due to a small fire that occurred in the Alabama lab in December, the tests were sent to the lab at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., to expedite results.

Imagine if someone from that [Mark May] hole up north decided to do this in the Buckeye Grove.
