Hey, michfan78, Ohio State hired John Cooper based on his win over Michigan in a big bowl game...how'd he fare against Michigan after that? You keep that mindset there, smart guy...

Top notch recruiter? Getting kids into LSU and keeping them there, living without limits on signing is one thing, doing that in Ann Arbor is something different.

Got to believe he might consider leaving now that Saban is loose at Alabama, especially if Auburn gets away with the Cameron fiasco. Those two programs can keep anyone else from getting to the CCG and a shot at the brass ring.

Lou Holtz was pretty funny last night. Mark May gave a sermon, "Michigan needs to break out the bucks and pay whatever it takes to either buy out Les Myles, or give Harbaugh whatever he needs. Just pay the money. they haven't been willing to do that ....blah, blah, blah."

Lou came back with, "Michigan is like Notre Dame, they think you ought to pay them to coach there. When I was talking to Notre Dame's AD he told me, 'we can't pay you more than the president of the college, well the president was a priest. But when I thought about it, that was where I wanted to coach and I wanted to coach. I didn't really care about the money. So I went to Notre dame, and guess what? Eventually the money came to me."

Mark May blew him off. "Welcome to the 21st century, that's all gone." Lou just smiled at the flaming ass hole and in the background you could hear the OSU fans chanting, "Mark May sucks!"

All of which fit in with what others had been saying before the game: Stanford Athletic department is in the red. Despite their success on the field they still don't draw dick -- apologies to Major League for copyright infringement -- Michigan doesn't pay dick -- see Lou Holtz comment. And part of this has to do with the difference between the Big 10, Pac 10 and the SEC.

Ed Weaver, Ohio State AD in the 70's fired Fred Taylor with the express purpose of hiring, "a big name coach." He then found out that OSU wasn't paying anywhere near what the market was bearing because Woody and Fred both insisted on being paid no more than a full professor. Weaver couldn't shovel out big bucks unless he shoveled even more toward Woody and Woody held onto the principal that a university's first job was education.

I don't for the life of me believe that Brandon has the permission of UM's president to pay "whatever it takes." Myles buyout price is said to be very steep, Harbaugh has at least 3 NFL francises hot in pursuit -- entities that have no governing bodies watching what they spend on a coach. These are hard times in Michigan and the governor and the legislature will surely NEVER let UM pay something well beyond the range of what MSU paid/pays for Dantonio -- history or no history.

Somewhere out there is a coach who wants to be at Michigan and believes that being there is more important than the money. When he arrives he will have the luxury of at least two years to remold the program because of the perceived (and visible) mess RR has left behind. If he begins to succeed by his third year, and if he takes advantage of the facilities, the fan base and the history, the money will find him.

I found a copy of Les Miles' contract online somewhere yesterday. The LSU folks were saying that his buyout would be in the neighborhood of $5 million dollars based on some calculations on a sliding scale, but Les has a clause in his contract that says his buyout is $1.25 million if he goes to Michigan. I saw the clause, it's specific only to him going to Michigan.

Right now he's preparing for his Cotton Bowl against aTm on Friday. But if he's interested in going to TSUN (which is always possible when it's the alma mater), the buyout shouldn't kill the deal, even with TSUN trying to be frugal. But I don't think TSUN will match what LSU is paying him, so I don't see it happening.
