I'd love for Les to get the job...I think recruiting would be better than Rodriguez, but it'd still fall short of where they were under Carr. He benefits a ridiculous amount by having such a large base in Louisiana, it covers up his recruiting flaws.
not to mention the premiere recruiting pool in america next door in texas, and talent rich states like bama, ms, etc.

I suggest a deal. You write four copies of a letter. Bill Martin will send his four fastest sailboats, one in each direction. We'll run up the white flag and deliver your message. If Harbaugh wants you, bless you both. If not ... please consider Brady Hoke as an alternative to suicide. Are we agreed?

Haha anyone that can work a PB quote into a Buckeye forum gets greenies.

Wait a darn tootin' second. BeanCounter? Seems a decent poster and all, but do we really have room for two bean counters? Are we going to have to have a pancake hop-off here?

San Diego State plays Michigan next year in the Big House.

If DB does not hire Brady Hoke, he runs a risk of Hoke coming into the House, winning, and embarrassing the new staff early in the coaches tenure. Its food for thought for Dave Brandon to ponder. However, most of the weasels up north seem to not prefer the Hoke option.

Here is what I liken it to: 3 years ago TSUN had an option to go after Jim Harbaugh but chose not to do so. He wasn't proven at a big-time level. 3 years later, Jim Harbaugh is too good for Michigan. When the coach is the right hire, why does the resume/experience mean anything? Its just to "sell" the fanbase from the January to August timeline when no games are played. RRod was sexy at the time. Harbaugh was not. It has since flipped.

My point is: if Hoke is a solid guy for the job to rebuild Michigan, why the fuck does his 46-50 record matter? He's rebuilt 2 programs. Is he as sexy of a hire as Harbaugh? Clearly not. But the excuses are eerily similar to many bad coaching hires. In 2001, Ohio State chose to go after Tressel, a nationally obscure name, but an important Ohio name. Obscurity and a lack of sexiness should not be confused with the ability to coach, recruit and win.

As for SDSU, I think they'd promote Rocky Long (my preferred choice) or Al Borges to head coach if Hoke leaves. I'd be bummed if Hoke leaves, but those two candidates are both on the up and up as well.

Fuck Michigan.

Watching Brandon's news conference. Just ... wow. I don't know that I've ever seen such an incompetent firing.

Any major corporation knows that here's how you fire someone: "Hi, Rich. Hate to tell you this so bluntly, but your tenure here is over. Give me your keys and clean out your office. Now. You need to be out of the building within one hour, max. Best wishes in any future ventures; we appreciate your contributions, but we need to go in a different direction."

Brandon dragged this out like Joe Stalin dragged out pulling someone's fingernails. As big a dickhead as Rodriguez proved himself to be, he deserved to be canned in a competent fashion. Brandon failed utterly to do so, and showed in the process that he's hugely indecisive.

Great news for all Buckeye fans for the foreseeable future! :banger:

My rational hatred for TSUN would hit stratospheric levels of irrationality. No, I could never fault somebody for moving on to greener ($) pastures. I don't necessarily think that the weasel's pastures are actually greener and more bountiful for someone like Hoke though. If he didn't succeed at Michigan, he'd go back to being a coordinator or out of a job. With SDSU, the stress to succeed is so much lower. We are stoked for a 9-win season and a bowl. The paycheck isn't $3+ million, but he could get up to Peterson levels of money ~$1.5 mil if he keeps up success with SDSU.

I'd attempt a cautious respect for Hoke that could quickly turn to hatred.

In my IMO, Hoke to Michigan is probably too risky to justify a hire at the moment. Fanbase wants something sexy and Hoke isn't it. But he'd be affordable for them and I think his floor/ceiling is more respectable than what RR's was. I'm not necessarily sold on Hoke being a national-title caliber coach (only a few of those around) but I think he is a high-quality coach with good intelligence/decision making and knows a bit more about defense than RR.

Personally I think Fitzgerald would be a great hire for Michigan. I don't think they'll do it, but he understands the Big Ten.....and probably will hit his glass ceiling at Northwestern soon....and some SEC team will come looking.
