Pizza Man says he's going to conduct a national search

did Tressell have a sub .500 record when coming to osu? yeah, i didn't think so. 46-50 does matter, IMO.

just heard another name thrown into the mix from an "inside source" *cough* Internet Clown *cough*......Mark Richt.
Tressel coached I-AA, Hoke has coached at I-A. I'm really going to try not to get into a direct Tressel to Hoke comparison because Tressel is a god. Hoke is merely a low-level hero on my list.

My point was that obscurity and lack of sexiness didn't preclude future success and prosperity.

What is with all the "Harbaugh scares me" stuff?

Fuck that jerk off big toothed bastard.

A) It doesn't matter who they bring in the next guy simply doesn't have enough talent or depth to win for the first 2-3 years MINIMUM. It will be 4-5 before that program can start to go toe to toe with OSU.

B) Ty effing Willingham was the hot shit look at what he did at Stanford/wait until he gets somewhere where its easier to recruit coach at one point in the not so distant past too.

It seems like JH is a fine coach but he's the flavor of the month. I'll wait until I see him walk on water with my own two eyes before I anoint him the second coming.

Wherever Harbaugh elects to walk on water, it's not going to be the Huron River. Much more likely to be San Francisco Bay or Biscayne Bay.

Richt is unquestionably a fine man, which differentiates him from some other recent coaches in Ann Arbor. But he seems to have hit a wall. Maybe a move would do him some good, but I can't see Richt being successful at TSUN.

If he can't win big at UGA with all the built in recruiting advantages of a football crazed SEC school what makes anyone think he'll be able to do it at scUM?

In my IMO the Pizza Man may be saying "name" coach but he's going to end up with a guy from the lower ranks (that obviously doesn't mean he won't be any good).

The name guys can all see what would be waiting on them in AA and none of them are going to walk into a mess like that and tarnish their name for the next 3 years for anything less than a shit load of money which isn't going to be coming.

The fun part is going to be in watching how big name crazed the pizza man truly is. That is exactly what caused a certain magnificent sumbitch to so spectacularly handle the last search.

They fuck this one up and its another 7-8 years on their current suffering minimum. 3-4 years to begin to have enough talent to accurately judge the next guy, 3-4 years to conclude he isn't getting it done. All that added to the last 3 years.

This hire could mean the difference between a 6 year skid and a 15 year skid and the guy in charge couldn't get a pizza company to make good pizza. I like our chances here.

DB: Idea - All interviewees for HC position to be brought to AA in white stretch limo with blacked out windows ...

Brandon dragged this out like Joe Stalin dragged out pulling someone's fingernails. As big a dickhead as Rodriguez proved himself to be, he deserved to be canned in a competent fashion. Brandon failed utterly to do so, and showed in the process that he's hugely indecisive.

Posturing. He has to sell the idea that the decision to fire was not made until after January 1st.

I agree. I have no idea whether Hoke would be a good choice, but I do think a guy's record as a head coach is a legitimate factor to look at (tempered by a comparison to the state his programs were in when he took the helm). Tressel was an obscure national name because he coached at a D-1AA program, but his records and overall success there were a big part of what made the case for him. If Hoke had anywhere near the winning percentage at Ball State and SDSU that Tressel had at YSU, he'd probably be a shoo-in.

They should go after the coach of Appalachian State.
This would be a much better comparison to the Tressel hire, other than the lack of in-state or regional ties.

Again, I agree. Based on a limited record, Harbaugh seems to be a solid coach, and a pretty good recruiter. But I think there are a lot of solid coaches that would be likely to have Michigan consistently fielding good-to-very-good teams within 3-4 years. It's not clear to me what the evidence is that Harbaugh would do better than that. And, contrary to some, I actually think he's a better fit for the NFL than college, in at least one respect. PR is pretty important for a college HC gig, especially a BigTen gig, not so much for an NFL spot, and I'm not sure PR is Harbaugh's forte.

You can't look at record alone. Tressel was as YSU a long time. I'm not sure what they were like before him, but he really only needed to build the team once and then just keep it rolling. There was no rebuilding job at OSU. Cooper did a good job of leaving good players for JT so all he had to do was keep bringing in good players and coach them up. Winning the BCS was a combination of JT and Cooper.
Tsun doesn't have that option. DickRod ruined that program so they need someone with a track record of building programs. One problem with coaches that build programs is that it takes a couple years to get everything turned around so their overall record might not be great if they go get a better job after they build a program.
As an OSU fan Hoke is the type of coach that I don't want scum to hire. It took him 5 years to turn around a crappy MAC team, but he turned SDSU into a winner in 2 years. Tsun is at least 2-3 years away from being a force in the Big 10 especially considering that this is a wasted year in recruiting, but they need to hire someone that has proven they can build a team from scratch and will focus on defense for the first couple years.
If we're lucky scum will punt on the new coach, hire a safe pick, and we'll be back here in 3-4 years. At that point Hoke will probably be too big to come to scum.
