Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Alabama is in if they win out (likely). Clemson is in and would jump Ohio State if they win out (likely). Washington is in and will jump Ohio State if they win out (not as likely as the other two, but still likely). That leaves 1 spot. Ohio State would have to be ahead of 2 conference champs (Big 12 and B1G) - If Penn State wins against Wisconsin, I can't see how tOSU would get in over them, because they beat tOSU head to head, and would be B1G champions.
I predict the final Ranking would be
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Washington
4. Ped State
5. tOSU
6. Big 12 Champ

Current playoff rankings:
1Alabama
2Ohio State
3Michigan
4Clemson
5Louisville
6Washington
7Wisconsin
8Penn State
9Oklahoma
10Colorado
If we win out (and not get into the B1G CCG, assuming PSU also wins out), we still get in especially if we win impressively. We'll have wins over Michigan, Wisconsin, Oklahoma currently in the top 9, with two of those wins at night on the road. Our only loss is to #8 PSU, at night, on the road, in wet conditions. Our "best" (and only) loss trumps the losses of everyone else, save Wiscy's losses to #2 Ohio State and #3 Michigan.

Clemson won't jump us even if they're ACC champions because their loss (43-42 at home against unranked Pitt) is significantly worse and more recent than our loss.

Louisville gets left out even if they finish 11-1, because they lost to Clemson and has close wins against Virginia and Wake Forest (a game they trailed 12-10 at home going into the fourth quarter). This is of course provided Clemson wins the ACC CCG.

No way Washington jumps us after the way they got pushed around at home by a 3-loss USC team, even if the Huskies win their conference. Their loss in way worse than ours.

Wisconsin won't jump us even if they win the conference, because they have two losses and lost to us, at home.

Same for the Pedsters even if they win the conference, because they also have two losses with one of them being a 30+ point beat down, even if it was to the #3 team. And even though they did win the head-to-head, it was a game in which they were dominated save the blocked FG for the TD.

Oklahoma is an absolute non-factor to jump us since we curb-stomped them at their place and they also lost to an overrated Houston team.

Colorado isn't even worth mentioning.

We win out, we're in, and if we win impressively, we'll stay at #2.

Not saying I want it to happen, or think it should happen, but I guarantee they will try to select 4 conference champions.

The bold is bold because it's brazenly bold. A 2 year window gives you special insight into a rotating committee that you guarantee?

Pessimism is the easiest human reaction. It takes less work. I'm guessing (see no guarantee because I have no insight) that the team and staff are working their collective assess off to win the last 2 regular season games as best they can to become involved into the playoffs, just in case your guarantee falls through.

Of course they'd like to have champions. They stated on the record that they weigh it equally with other factors.

The reality is that people are quoting sample sizes of 2 from wildly different playoff races.

Look, it is true that in two years the committee has only selected conference Champions.

However , what is also true is that the committee has never selected a team with two losses. Nor has a one loss team "jumped" an undefeated team.

Further, the only power 5 teams with one loss who were not selected in 2014 were Baylor and TCU .

The only such teams not selected in 2015 were OSU and Iowa - both of whom were beaten by, and had the same record as, the conference champ.

And finally the only difference between the committee's picks and final regular season polls in two years that in one of the 2014 polls Baylor was ranked ahead of OSU.

There is simply no evidence to suggest the committee will do anything like what is suggested in the above post or similar posts many are making.

Bleh. Either move this to the playoff thread or show me some quotes from Penn State fans crying or being stupid or wishing JoePa were here to help them with a tough time in their lives.

If they are having a tough time in their lives it's because Joesus wishes it to be so.

He created Happy Valley to test the faithful.

One of the reasons they even instituted the playoff was to make it more difficult to play for a NC without winning the conference.
