Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Corn Franklin?

Straight into bed with another guy that has, shall we say, big game "tendencies"?

Oh please make it so
I said this over on LR, and I was told I was insane. Imo Franklin and Rhule are like the Spider-Man meme. Neither has produced much at a high level but overachieved at their lesser destinations.
Setting aside my visceral distaste for their cult, just looking at football: is this really a big time destination job anymore?

Not really an NFL factory, located in a bad spot. I mean a bad fucking spot. glory days were in the century that stated with a 19 but a fanbase that thinks they are as good/dominant a brand as OSU.

All the pressure of a top 5 job but what advantages?
It really isn’t. They’re located in the backwoods of PA, and is not a major destination for many top talent unless the coaches create great relationships and make competitive NIL packages. They almost remind me of a junior version of ND and almost on the same level as Nebraska. They have irrational fan bases who expect success like it’s still the 60s and 70s. Honestly, Franklin didn’t deserve to be fired, and they’re going to find that out the hard way over the years. I can see their next coach having a massive dip and it only continue to where Nebraska and Wisconsin are.

Nebraska is the comp I keep going back to.

They had a day and time when they could get elite talent to come to Lincoln. Once that changed, the remoteness of that place and lack of a natural recruiting ground bit them in the ass hard.

I see a lot of similarity at Penn State. Pennsylvania doesn't turn out the volume of top end guy like it used to and the DMV isn't theirs anymore either. You have to probably over pay a tad on NIL and who is their Daddy Morebucks? I ask because it isn't Ohio when everyone in the state is a huge fan of the one school. Philly is a pro sports town. Pitt hates their guts and the middle is a vast wilderness.

They fuck this hire up and they could have just had their Solich moment before joining Nebraska down in the light heavyweight division.
