Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Because Penn State has the better history, stadium, tradition etc.

I agree he shouldn’t because why invite more stress for not much of a gain but it’s a better job for football than Indiana.
I don't disagree......especially for a younger coach. But I'm just thinking that at his age, he's got the perfect situation right now, if he can keep them at the level they are now. 5-6 years doing what he's doing and getting well paid for it then retire as a Hoosier God versus the uncertainty of what he would deal with at PSU. Guess it depends on how big his ego actually is.

but OTOH, in the NIL era all you need is a stadium and a mega rich donor daddy. He has that at IU. Not sure they do at Penn State.

Also at IU, no one is going to call for your head when you lose to Notre Dame or Ohio State, ask Franklin how that works at Penn State.

That was my point. He can get rich with a lot less pressure at IU.

Urban was talking about this years ago. Why go to a place that has expectations beyond reality except for a shitload of money?

I think one of the unintended consequences of NIL is in shaking up what it means to be a "destination" job anymore.

I seriously don't know about Penn State being that anymore.

Did I miss something besides a first round drubbing last year?

Just sayin': You overlooked the fact that Indiana football has (basically) been crap for over 50 years now. Their last good season was in 1967 with Coach John Pont going 9-2 and winning the B1G. They did lose the Rose Bowl, but finished #4 in the AP and #6 in the Coaches poll. A first round drubbing in the CFPs is a highly successful year for Indiana football. The team vastly exceeded expectations and besides (just going 10-0 through the first 10 games in 2024) earned Cignetti a new 8 year contract totalling $72M.

Appreciated but the phrase used was "demonstrated his ability to compete for a NC at IU".

He has demonstrated no such thing, he has exceeded expectations no doubt but those aren't the same thing.
